  1. In birds? because thats the section its in but if its you The one under me is right use the tea tree oil shampoo and get a special lice comb or lice shampoo

  2. Find a shampoo with Tea Tree Oil in it, and buy some Tea Tree Oil as well. Wash your hair everyday and put the oil on your comb/brush. You might smell like the oil all day, but it's a faster way to get rid of lice.

  3. If this is for you and not for a bird,

Here is what we did and it worked after being frustrated for a while:

Colouring her hair will not likely work. The chemical shampoo that you buy ends up with mixed results for many. Alot of head lice are becoming resistent to the chemcials that once worked and many people are choosing to not pour chemicals all over their heads.

For a good chemical free approach that works, you will need to use something like the NitFree line of chemical free head lice products to get rid of the ones that are chemical resistant. This is happening more often now than ever before.

NitFree has a great mousse that works to dissolve the glue that is holding the nits to your hair. Their comb is great as it is a high quality comb that pulls the lice and nits out of your hair. And I would say that the comb is the key. If you do not get all of the eggs (nits) out, you will just have them hatching again in a week or so. Our daughter has thick long hair and this comb worked for us.

You will likely want to use the mousse twice (two bottles) and then after two applications of it, I would just coat your hair with conditioner and comb through with their comb wiping it on a tissue to see if you are getting any nits out.

We buy the NitFree products at kleen-free.com.

Additionally, you need to make sure that all of your clothes and bedding and pillow have been washed and/or dried at very high temperatures to get rid of the lice that may be off your body right now.

Good luck. You can get rid of them this way and you are not doing harm to yourself or the environment with this solution.

  4. I'm serious about this. Get Sunlight dish soap and give your animal a quick bath. If you want you can just put some on a wet towel and rub it on your pet. Then find a lice powder, and, ya. I have goats that got lice and i used this method and they went away fast.

  5. I had a friend use "Rid" shampoo for himself or I've used "UltraCare Mite and Lice" spray for birds.  Make sure it doesn't get in anybody's eyes.

The first time is going to "wake them up" and you'll need to apply it again to get rid of survivors. If treating yourself keep the contamination at a minimum by containing it in the same shower and disinfect it afterwards.

  6. To be sure you get them all you'll have to nit-pick every strand of hair, several times a day for at least a week.  And then once a day for a another week or two...until you go a few days without finding any new ones.

I'm talking about extreme cases....my niece was visiting me last summer and the first day she got here (on a month long trip) I found she had THOUSANDS of lice and nits in her hair.  It took two weeks to get them all out.  Really put a damper on all the plans my family had made for her visit.  :-(

She had a lice problem months prior to her visit but she was using the tea tree oil for a long time so no one even thought to check her, assuming it worked, before she made the trip out.  Nothing worked, not NIX not tea tree oil etc...only the nit-picking.  I found it easier to just cut off the strand of hair I found the nit on...after I had gotten the worst of them (she would have been bald otherwise)  lol.    Put the nit (or lice) in a bowl of water with rubbing alcohol in it until you can flush it.  Let all combs, clips and scissors soak in a rubbing alcohol bath between nit-picking sessions.  And wear a shower cap!  Don't let the picker become the pickee ;-)  Also make sure to wash all bedding everyday in HOT water and vacuum.
