  1. Don't do a full swing to ensure you keep in the fairway, even if losing distance. Don't use your driver - 3W is fine...

Focus on short game fundamentals - learn the bump'n'run shot, as well as chipping and sand shots (not fairway bunkers, but those protecting the green. Also, putting is critical - aim to never  3 putt. If in doubt, just try to leave the first putt within 3 feet or so of the hole.

  2. VERY SIMPLE......LEARN TO PUTT, NEVER HIT DRIVER OFF THE TEE, AND SWING ITHIN YOURSELF.....FINALLY, HAVE FUN!

  3. I would give a couple of points of advice.

    1. Work on your short game. Remember the old adage, drive for show, putt for dough.

    2. Never try to over-estimate your own ability, play the safe percentage shot. If you dont think you can clear a set of bunkers or water, dont try, lay up short

    3. One trick that has worked for me, is slowing down my back swing. By slowing it down, you ensure you get into a good position at the top of your backswing, so you're more likely to be in a good position at the point of contact.

    4. Don't let setbacks get to you.

  4. The thing that really helped me was to try not to hit the ball hard. Just take your time and swing smoothly, and the ball will often go further then ever.

Also, take your time. Line up your putts, do practice swings, wait for the wind to stop - they all help towards get the perfect round!

Apart from that, practice practice practice! I know it sounds annoying but it was about a 8 months before I broke 100 and now I'm shooting in the low to mid 80's regularly!

  5. shoot 99

  6. play 15 holes and quit

  7. with a hammer

  8. easiest way?

    chipping and putting.

most people spend their range time smacking driver after driver, fixing the constant draw and slice that they develop as their swing changes.

try spending about 2/3 of your time on the putting greens, chipping to the holes, and putting.

learning to get up and down is crucial to becoming a good golfer.

    :D

  9. you hit more shots with your putter than any other club, yet we practice our driver more than any other club even though we only use it about 11 times a match. Try practicing putting because it will make all the difference.

  10. try to get bogey's instead of pars

  11. cheat

  12. Play only 9 holes

  13. work on your short game. Usually you could take off 5-10 strokes off your score if u have a solid short game which includes chipping, putting, bunker play, scrambling, etc.

  14. I would carefuly watch some instruction from the golf channel or get an instructional video. Then spend some time at the driving range concentrating on making good contact with the ball.  Don't worry so much about distance as in straightness.  Hit 5 buckets of balls per round of golf.

Here is something I have always wanted to try but have caved in to peer pressure ( even when playing alone )  On a par 5, 520 yards, hit your pitching wedge 100 yards 5 times and putt in for an easy bogey, instead of trying to crush a drive and wind up in the trees and costing yourself 2 strokes for the drop, then trying to make up for that blunder by trying to kill the ball with a 3 wood to reach the fringe (maybe), this turns into a chunked 2nd shot - actually 4th -, that still leaves at least a 4 iron to the green, a hairy chip and then a possible 3 putt.       The moral of the story is......  course management.  Play smart and play to your strenghts.  Good luck.  Breaking 100 feels great.  100 is still the average score turned in at the clubhouse.

  15. I have been playing golf for 2 years and am a 6 handicap. I good fast by practicing on the driveing range. If you cant break 100 then could use some consistancy with your ball striking. Once a week at the range with maybe a lesson and you will be better in no time.

  16. practice some more

  17. ask Marion Jones

  18. Use a Footwedge (cuz there's no stroke penalty), mulligans, and 20-foot gimmies!

  19. Stop at 99 and then go to the practice tee.

  20. On a course like you describe, course management is everything. Think about it:

If you play bogey-golf, you shoot 88...So, with 11 shots to spare, you basically can get a double-bogey on 11 other holes, and you'd meet your goal of shooting under a 100 (even if it's a 99).

Like others said, on and around the greens, you need to be solid--NO 3 putts! Try to get to the course early and hit the practice green to get a feel for how the greens are rolling.

As for your tee shot, pull out your 3-wood or even a hybrid. Your main goal should be to just keep it in the fairway. On your second shot, pull out a 6 or 7-iron....don't feel like you have to put it on in regulation. Even if you're leaving it a 100 yards out, you'll still be OK. For a par 4, take 3 shots to get on, 2 putt, and take a bogey. Par 5s and 3s would be the same principle...take one extra shot to put it on the green, 2 putt, and you'll break 100 easily.

    Good luck.

  21. well without a pro's help it will be alot harder, you may want to try looking around for lessons, they aren't as expensive as some people think.   But I would work on your short game...chipping and putting, also try to relax when you ssing, and hit through the ball not at it...

  22. Swing easy, practice alot, focus only on the good shots, and imagine only good shots. If you think negative it will definitely affect you negatively!

  23. Easy!!!  Just write down "5" on every hole on you scorecard.

    5 times 18 equals to 90....   see?

  24. be  a good golfer?

  25. The fastest way? Only play 9 holes. Your score should be below 100 and think of the time you'll save!

  26. Practice chipping/putting a LOT.

Do not use a driver.   Your 3-wood off the tee will keep you in play more often.

Aim for a realistic score on each hole.   If its a long par-4, you should aim for a 5 and call it your personal par until you get better.

Avoid risky shots; avoid penalty strokes like OB.
