  1. I was rear-ended by a small pickup truck while I was in an older Cadillac sedan . I was stopped, estimated speed of truck at impact was between 45-50 mph . Collision pushed rear end in about a foot, bent the driver's seat back about 70 degrees and caused my right foot to come off the brake . In a 55 mph zone with 2 lanes each way, I had to stop behind a vehicle that was stopped behind a stalled vehicle at an intersection with a green light . I was not hurt and neither was the teen  driver who hit me, but the driver of the vehicle in front of me that I was nudged into later complained of back pains . Upon hearing the screeching tires behind me, I hunkered down in my seat . I did not anticipate my foot coming off the brake by the force of the collision . In retrospect, I should've gone into the left turn lane . And I should have been more aware of my surroundings and the options available to me on that particular road - traffic, speed, shoulder, turn lane . I came up short in a couple of these . A collision will happen in a micro second . If I have time to prepare, it is strictly by chance . Otherwise, I am at the mercy of the circumstances and elements.

    All the best.

  2. try to minimize the impact every way possible without involving other cars.........

  3. Hold on to the steering wheel and try and relax somewhat.....

  4. Its best to tense up mate...that way you will avoid your body being thrown around like a rag doll!

  5. There is a lot of debate here.  Some say trying to relax your body to take the shock is best, others say tense up in a ball.

  6. I would say in general slow down and gradually steer away from the other vehicle(s) but every potential accident is different so it would really depend upon the specifics ot the potential accident.

  7. If the car is high enough up and you have enough time you could hit the dirt and hope it doesnt get you. jumping is a bad idea as you will either go through the windshield or break both your legs.

  8. It's best to avoid being hit by a car before you get hit by a car.  DA!
