I always remeber moving to the east coast of scotland, and hearing 99 red baloons, and going into the legion bar with my mum to meet up with my dad, all the seats inside were red velvet.

  10. Tears, by Ken Dodd (Don't all laugh!)

When I was little, if I got upset and started crying my mum used to play it on the old gramaphone we had back then (screen shimmers for a flashback) It always used to stop me from crying as I could never take my own tears too seriously listening to this goofy clown sing about his broken heart. An early lesson in empathy!

  24. Where's Me Mam by The Krankies.

My grandad used to do the 'lights' in a local social club where the Krankies played one time. He got me this signed record and I played it every day for about 3 months. It then mysteriously disappeared.

As my mum used to get through 10 players no.6 when it was on I suspect she may have been the guilty party....

  25. Golden Brown by the Stranglers was the first record I bought, I was 11 I think, and I always remember it for that.

We were visiting people in Chingford, and I thought wow London, we were from Manchester.

  26. 'and the wheels on the bus go round and round'

my mum sang it to me on my first day going to school (we were sitting on a bus at the time) I had never been to pre-school or a minder before so this was truly a memorable experience for me, I can even picture the bus conductor smiling at my mum whilst she was singing, the funny thing is I think he and a few of the other passengers joined in - or maybe I am just embellishing my memories to make them better.

    Who knows ?

  27. hey jude.

  28. Beethoven.... Moonlight Sonata...

My Mum used to play the piano.

I am still a Beethoven addict.

  29. I have memories of this singer from my childhood - Mario Lanza, who seemed always to be on the radio back in the 1950s until his untimely death in 1959 - shame.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qpP7heFjr...

As a friend of mine once said of Mario, "I personally blame him for introducing the British working classes to opera.  Now look, just cannot get enough of it".  and, so it goes.

This next young man has taken the opera world by storm and is now a big star worldwide - I still blame Mario Lanza for this. . . .
