  1. The problem is not your graphics card but your new processor.

The processor with two core will run faster than a single core. But lots of games do not support such a technology of physical multithreading.

So, you should download a mend program to fix it!

  2. My answer hinges on what the_sio, said, except that not all Gateway computers are c**p, as far as gaming goes. I just got this info a few hours ago, when a person needed a driver for their LAN card, on a Gateway

    FX4710-UB802A

    http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/FX/10156...

    1.Core2 Quad Q9300. 4 cores operating at 2.50GHz each. 6MB's of l2 cache. 1333MHz FSB.

    2.DDR2 at 667MHz, and 4GB's of it.

3.640GB Sata II HD, with the usual 7200 rpm spindle speed.

4.Nvidia GeForce 9800GT, with 512MB's of graphics ram, and factory overclocked.

    5.400 watt Psu.(Eh!)

In my zealousness, I accidentally looked up the Gateway FX4710-EB102A

    http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/FX/10155...

    1.Core2 Quad Q6700. 4 cores operating at 2.66GHz each. 8MB's of L2 cache, and a 1066MHz FSB.

    2.DDR2 at 667MHz, and 8GB's of it!

3.1TB Sata II HD. (7200 rpm)

4.Nvidia GeForce 9800GT, with 512MB's of graphics ram. Factory overclocked.

    5.Same Ol' 400 watt Psu.

Pretty sure, these will run the new games designed for Quad Core!

Don't know what chipset, or mobo they use. I could build better for cheaper, and have always harked on building your own, but facts are facts.

Now my answer for you differs from most of my answers. This is your parents computer, and it's EXPENSIVE!  I cannot give you info in good faith on how to look up what graphics it uses. It would be a reference to a website that has a tiny, little program that you download, and run.

This program is FREE, has NO viruses attached, no spyware, no spam. You download a zip file, and then un-zip the folder, and run the .exe file. It will tell you everything about the hardware inside this computer without opening the case.

This computer probably has one, or more of your parents as the System Administrator, as it should be. You, the user, will not be able to access the computer to download anything, if this is so.

You might speak to them about upgrading the graphics. The graphics on this computer could be Integrated graphics,(This is a graphics 'chip', that's soldered to the motherboard), in which case it cannot be upgraded. You have to see if there is an available PCI-Express x16 slot, to install a dedicated graphics card.

OR, it may have a dedicated graphics card installed into a PCI-Express x16 slot. In which case, you would just remove this card, un-install the drivers, install the new drivers that come with the new graphics card on a CD, then install the graphics card.

You need to know if it has a PCI-Express x16 slot. You need to know if the power supply will have enough wattage for the new graphics card, and enough amp's for it's 12v power rail.

You need to know, what the minimum system requirements are for the games you wish to play, in order to buy the correct graphics card.

    Pretty simple stuff, huh? lol!

Edit: Uh, yeah, the Intel Core2 Duo WILL run those games!

Sheesh! It's the QUAD CORE that has problems! Only a handful of games have been written for the Quad Core.

With enough ram memory, and the right graphics card, you can smoke sum game frame rates!

XFX GeForce 8800GTS Alpha Dog Edition,(Not to be confused with the old 8800GTS! This one has 128 Stream Processors!)

(This is if this long graphics card fit's in your computer case!

Also you need a power supply that will handle it. And the PCI-Express x16 slot. This graphics card is F-A-S-T! Run's much cooler than most graphics cards. Especially the AMD ATI line.)

  3. You can't tell what graphics you have just by the processor.  You probably have onboard graphics (on the motherboard) or you may have an actual graphics card.  I wouldn't be surprised if it won't run certain games, I think all the Dell, Gateway, Compaq type computers are c**p.  Next time, opt for a custom job if you are really into gaming.
