  1. running altogether.. its h**l

  2. The Tenzing-Hilary Everest Marathon (high altitude marathon), Badwater Ultramarathon (135 miles),  and Pokhara, Nepal is considered one of the most difficult in the world.  Any ironman event.  But man always try to find more challenges...

I'm sure there is many more out there...

  3. Marathon or short events lik the 400m sprint! they kill...i no i do erm!

  4. Depends, the hardest you'll get in track is probably the 400 or 800, they're basically endurance sprints.

There's another class that most people don't even know exists though, and they're called ultra marathons. A good book for them is called "Ultra Marathon Man: Confessions of an All Night Runner" by Dean Karnazes, but these are seriously hardcore (like in excess of 100 miles in the nastiest conditions on earth). You should definitely read the book.

  5. ultra marathons or the 400H

  6. hardest physically is the longest you can find

the marathon, the ULTRA- marathon ect.

but i think the hardest races MENTALLY

    are the 400, 400hurdles and the 800

because you have to pace them

just barely below an all out sprint

    and if you miss-pace it

there's not enough time to come back....

  7. The marathon or 400m i'd say.

  8. I can't attest to every event...but after being around track and field/running long enough one of the hardest events has to be the 400 meter hurdles. Just sprinting a 400 is hard enough let along having to jump every 50 meters or so.

Other than that there really is no "hardest event". Everyone has their specialty and when you're good at something, it shouldn't feel "hard". An 800m run for someone may feel excruciating while to an 800m specialist it is easy. On the other hand, sprinting 100m or throwing shot may be impossible to some and easy for others.

To keep it short, the steeplechase, 400m hurdles, and obviously ultra marathons are generally thought of as difficult.

  9. the mile, the shorter events, you just have to survive through the pain, the mile you have to survive through the pain, AND really concentrate

  10. As for track and field I think the 800 Meters. It has become a full out sprint for 800 meters which is a killer.

  11. the 400m dash easily is hardest

  12. The 400m run by far, it takes a combination of speed, endurance, and strength.

  13. A marathon. Twenty-six miles, many of them hilly!

  14. i thought it was the marathon des sables, the 5 day desert marathon?

an yeh ironman events are pretty insane...

how about P company that paratroopers have to complete?

    or SAS selection?

  15. Badwater Ultramarathon: http://www.badwater.com/

It covers a distance of around 135 miles, from Death Valley to Mt. Whitney (Ca) in temperatures up to 55C. It's described as "the most demanding and extreme running race offered anywhere on the planet".

An interesting private event was accomplished by Dean Karnazes (who btw won Badwater a few times I guess): he ran 40 marathons in 40 consecutive days in different US states.

  16. 8000m steeplechase or the marathon

  17. marathon or triathelon

  18. as a sprinter i can safely say the 400m sprint, with the 800m not to far behind.

  19. either the marathon or mid distance events (400/800m)

  20. Toughest road Marathon is the Langdale Marathon (Yes, a UK one!!)

Toughest Marathon is the Himilayan, North Pole or Antartic one.

Im not sure about other distances - Iron man and Ultra runs could be very tough. The Mountain Marathons are tricky (Like OMM and LAMM - 2 days, carry all your kit and racing).

The Sahara desert race is meant to be very tough physically - 5 days racing with sand rubbing the skin off your feet all the time and the heat.

Other long distance races on roads are normally pretty simular difficulty, though I found Luton Marathon hard on the brain (a boring run)

Track races are simular wherever you race them (the shorter distances).

Then there are the 'extreme' events that are cropping up, like h**l Runner, which are tricky runs - obstacles to negotiate but dont arnt tough as such.

There are many tough races out there for every distance, the longer ones are tougher perhaps but again very depending on what you want to do - a morning race, full day race, 2 day race or full week race - so many choices and hard races for each.

    -EDIT-

Oh, Im taking hardest running event to be one where you have to work hard to stand a chance to complete it runnning all the way - so anythingh less than 1,000m and most peolpe can run or at least jog that so Ill ignore them, 400m race? thats not at all hard, a minute of effort and its over - marathon, 240 minutes of effort must be a lot harder

  21. The Everest Sprint climb.
