I was just watching the cycling at the velodrome and wondered what the ideal build was for an indoor cyclist. Is it better to be tall, average, short, stocky... ??

  1. In the sprint events like the Keiren very muscular and compact and not necessarily too tall as it's all about leg power- they train by doing squats in the gym in order to build up condition on their quadruceps, and a bit of upper body strength is necessary because you're contantly working the bike to build up as much speed as possible. In the longer events like the Madison or points race you don't want to be carrying too much muscle condition and you want to have better aerobic fitness and many of them are quite lean and thinly built. I would say an ideal height would be around 5'10 to 6'0.

  2. smooth and tall
