not long  i had one for two years and she died 4-2-06 to7-19-08   (last saturday)      her name was jewel.      there great little pets, just dont forget to feed them and clean there tank.  mine died out of the blue.   we think it was to hot where she was.   good luck.

They live up to 10 years, they get pretty big, and they'll eat everything else in your tank...
