Whats the logic behind censorship? ?

Isn't is basically sort of trying to control what you think? Like not showing you something so that you continue living the life you were fed and not be aware of whats going on around you?

I'd love to know what exactly answerer Ken thinks Chavez is supposed to have done? If there is any censorship about him, then it's the USA doing it-presumably covering up their involvement in the attempted coup against him a few years ago.

The US media is considered a laughing stock to the rest of the world, due its poor impartiality-most media sources simply rehash whatever c**p the White House spews out, and serious investigative journalism (as in the Watergate case etc) is in very poor health indeed in the USA. With such a compliant media, who needs censorship?

Censorship today means silencing conservative broadcasts. Can't have the masses knowing the truth. Isn't that what Obama's buddy Hugo Chavez did?

Because your ideas, who you are, is based one the influance of the institutions of soceity. The gov't is just bring control over on of the largest institutions of soceity. Allowing them to guide people where they want in development because they control alot of the other institutions

the logic is this:

people are stupid and can't be trusted to make decisions on their own... so the government must "guide" their ideas by editing what they read...

very dangerous idea... but after Bush was elected twice, you can see where such and idea could be born...

censorship must be done by someone with power... some governmental type or authoritarian agency that has the power to remove items... so it's all the same...
