I don't know if I should take this job. I'll be babysitting for about 11 hours (a 3 and 1 yr. old) I'm twelve, have experience, straight A student, and I took a babysitting course. I really love kids (so much I wouldn't mind babysitting for free, if it was a shorter time period) and I've wanted to babysit since I was 8 or 9! So should I take it or not? (if the mom wants me to)

  1. When I was 12, i babysat a 5 year old, 9 hours a day, Mon-Fri, for the whole summer... it worked out alright, but there was times I wanted someone else there...

When I was 15 I babysat two kids (4 and 8) for a whole weekend.  Just make sure you get paid.

If you have an older sibiling or parent, or a friend that the mom knows as well, ask if she would mind if they helped out for part of the day as well, when the kids are most active and around meal time.  This way, if something does happen, you  have a backup right there, and it will be less stressful feeding them.  If you go to the park, maybe take someone else with you too.

  2. Do not babysit for free.........

that's a long time for you

    how many days a week?

  3. If the mom is ok with it, you know the kids and get along with them you should be fine. Being as though it's such a long time I would also make sure I know the neighbors and wether or not they'll be home to help if needed or like your parents or older siblings. Someone close by to help if needed.

  4. there's no way i would babysit for 11 hours a day--- thats a long time-- you will want to spend some of your time with your friends going places, hanging out, and having a summer break--- you don't want to work your summer vacation away, you need some time off for yourself--- maybe offer to babysit for 4 or 5 hours but no more than that--- also you need to think about what you should be paid, otherwise someone will take advantage of your services!!!

  5. I think you should, but 11 hours is a long time. If it's one day go for it, but everyday or a few days a week, I'd see if maybe someone else can take a day or two. Personally I babysat for 36 hours before, but I was a little older. Make sure you think the whole day out so your not stuck in a rut.

Good luck to you and have fun

  6. 4-6 hours max. They are very small children to be tied up with for so many hours. You should get paid for it.  If it has to be for such a long time then ask your mom if she can come help at some point. The othe alternative is to ask the lady if you could invite another friend to come help & you both split the pay. Two heads are better than one.  Make sure that the mother has 3 meals & 2 snacks prepared in advance.
