  4. Not far away.... which you now know from all the other people who have answered but I thought I'd have some input =D

  5. Just a bit longer than a spit distance.

used as easy direction guide, with some pity in it.

Expect it when asking about a saloon, a bar, or a dealer of illicit drugs.

  6. how far you can throw an average rock. now this all depends on your ability to throw a stone of course.

for some it can mean 50 yards but in my case it can mean maybe 100 yards. but in either case its usually within eyesight.

    meaning close by

  7. The object is only a short distance away, a stones throw.

  8. If, - as an earlier earlier contributor laid out, - it refers to the distance that a stone may be thrown, - then, perhaps, there are other things to consider, also.

    1.  The SIZE of the STONE

    2.  The general SIZE, - and BUILD, - of the THROWER.

    3.  The TERRAIN over which, the "STONE" is to be           THROWN. The stone will travel, until it slows down, or hits something!

Such generalisations are IMPOSSIBLE to make!

  9. I thought it was a stones throw away. It means for example: I live at the end of the road and the newsagent is a stones throw away. It means that the shop is rather close to the house, about as far as u cld throw a stone.

  10. it means Not Very Far and you probably won't need your broomstick.

  11. Not very far. Usually in visual distance.
