I found this question on a job application for a supermarket, and I have no idea what the best answer is

You work at a cash register in a store where water has just spilled on the floor. The floor is very slippery and someone is walking toward the spill. Which of the following should you do?

Nothing because you cannot leave the register to clean up spills.

Quickly start cleaning up the spill, even if it is not your job.

Call someone else to clean up the spill.

Tell him to be careful of the water.

Call the manager.

  1. being a cashier in the past myself I have been asked the question. You should always warn the person first and ask someone who is not busy to stand by the mess while waiting for clean up but never leave your cash register unattened unless you are right next to it at all times.

  2. They're probably looking for a common sense answer, and the sensible thing to do would be to apologize, then warn customers the floor was wet and to be careful not to slip.

Call someone if and when you can.

Don't leave your cash register unattended or unlocked if there are other customers nearby.
