We have a concrete driveway but we need room for a 2nd car. I was thinking of just getting a few concrete slabs. Money is an issue. This is something we need to do but havent got funds really so im looking for ideas which dont cost much. Doesnt matter too much how it looks, its not like we keep our garden nice like it should be.

  1. Use like garvel or small rocks.. or u can use woodchips.. thas works very wel.. just put some much uncher then so the don't slide around and make a mess.

    good luck : )

  2. Use a lot of Play-doh.

  3. We had the one in our previous house block paved.  Many people put down shingle as a cheaper option but then they forget to brush it up off the path leading to the road.  These stray pebbles are dangerous if anyone steps on them the wrong way - they can easily cause sprained ankles, or worse. The local council will not, generally accept responsibility for such accidents, the onus is on the house-hold where the pebbles came from so beware of shingle.

  4. look in all local newspapers where you can usually pick up slabs for free, thats what we done. all so your local council might sell off old slabs cheap. good luck.

  5. Gravel is usually the cheapest option.

  6. The best combination of cheapest and lasting would be to level the route where you want the driveway thinly with sharp sand so that you can bed/lay slabs down. Not garden centre type slabs but ex. council type slabs, 2" thick and very tough. With no hardcore foundation underneath it gravel will soon get pushed into the ground/soil  where vehicles run over it, in wet weather  will soon become muddy. Slabs, because each one has a large surface area have far more resistance to getting squashed into the ground. Ideally hardcore would be used under a driveway, but we're not talking ideally, we're talking  practical and cheapest :-)
