  1. there is no hero. the central character, John the Savage, is an observer.


  2. I just love the book, but wonder how many would think it was a picture of dystopia and how many would think it was a picture of Utopia. Mucking about with bottles in a laboratory also enters into Arthur C Clarke's book, Childhood's End.
