  1. Well, first of all, because they are the bottom of the food chain. They are what is eaten by al animals and are the primary sources of energy.

Another purpose of this is because these play an indispensible role in the Oxygen-carbon dioxide cycle. We breathe Oxygen, then we exhale carbon dioxide, then they breathe it, then they exhale ovygen, and it all repeats again and again.

Also, they give habitat to animals who find shelter in branches, etc.

  2. Also as a minor point forests help prevent desertification. It shades soils from direct sunlight thus keeping them from excess heat, keeping them humid and also preventing deflation (wind-erosion).

  3. To compensate for the tree and massive area of forests loss through forest fires and human development such as farming and expanding of industries. Another need is to recover the loss of natural habitats and disruption of the ecosystem and to promote reproduction in animals by giving them a home. Also to compensate for global warming, reforestation helps to convert excess CO2 to O2. And to maintain the balance of CO2 and O2.

  4. To compensate for the deforestation and loss of natural plants and animals to development.
