  1. What do you mean oldest continent on Earth? Do you mean what the oldest piece of land on Earth is? Because I don't recall any piece of land on Earth is considered oldest when I was in geo class. The Earth was form by an phenomena called the Big Bang theory. And the Earth's land was once a giant piece of land that connected each other. But tectonic movements just separated these lands apart. So all of the land of earth is considered old.

  2. Pangaea was a supercontinent consisting of all of Earth's land masses. It existed from the Permian through Jurassic periods. It began breaking up during the late Triassic period.

edit - The oldest rock on Earth is actually Not from Earth. The oldest rocks are the meteorites that fall to Earth from space! Almost every meteorite can be dated to about 4.55 billion years old, which PRE-DATES the oldest known terrestrial rocks by 150,000,000 years.

  3. Africa.

  4. in the way human have been exploring

it's africa about 60 thounsand years then middle east 50 thousand years then asia 45 to 50 thousand years then europe about 40 thousand years old and then america about 15 to 18 thousand years ago

    i hope that helps

  5. Pangaea

  6. Africa

  7. all of them. They used to all be together. Remember learning about Pangea?

  8. Analysis of ancient zircon crystals from Australia confirm that continents formed ~4.35 billion years ago, less than 200 million years after the Earth formed. Not only that,  the zircon crystals also confirm that the Earth had water, maybe even oceans 4.35 billion years ago!

This is very surprising, it was thought that during the Hadean (Latin for h**l - 3.8 billion to 4.55 billion years ago) that the Earth was a big fiery ball of liquid lava that was often struck by huge asteroids.

No, 4.25 billion years ago you could have walked on a white quartz rich sandy beach and watched the waves lap the shore, while wearing an oxygen mask (there was no oxygen yet). You would have got a great suntan too, the sun was younger & looked blue and there was no Ozone layer.

So, the answer is. The oldest continent in the world, all that is left of it, are 50 zircon crystals (4 to 4.35 billion year old) smaller than a pinch of salt, in a laboratory in Australia.

  9. All of them. They were once part of Pangaea. A big chunk of landmass that contained all continents we know today. They slowly drifted apart due to continental drift and are in the pattern we see today.

  10. Gondwanaland...how did you manage to get SO many points..I want to be a top contributor as well!??

  11. Pangea isn't very old relatively speaking, only 250 million years. The oldest proto-continent so far named that I am aware of is called Vaalbara. The rocks that made up this continent are found in South Africa and Austrailia. The Transvaal in SA and the Pillbara in AUS

The oldest rock is in Greenland near Kangerlussaq. It is a gneiss that's about 3.8 billion years old.

The Jack Hills in Austrailia have the oldest single crystals so far found. These are zircon crystals that have been dated using U-Pb as 4.1 billion years old. The rock that contains these crystals is younger but contains recycled crystals due to weathering 4 billion years ago.

  12. I believe it is Australia.

  13. By and large the continental crust  form the continents and all continental crust  was  formed at the same time.

Large or super landmasses (continents)  like Pangea, Gondwanaland etc. have broken down to smaller pieces only. Thus all continents share common ancestry.

    thnks

  14. Pangaea... the super continent....

if u mean of the 7 that exist today???....

the all formed at the same time...
