You don't need a pic. It has lots of forms comprising of letters and numbers and a centerpiece that is moveable. The alphabet and numbers 1 to 10.  It's usually circular (not always) and the centerpiece is where the participants place one finger and then ask questions of what is termed as the spirit world.. although this is viewed these days as an occult practice.

It's not.. but it is recommended that people who are not experienced in matters of spirituality or mediumship or the paranormal don't mess with these things. And I strongly advise you.. not to.  There are much easier ways of finding asnswers.. and this is not, ultimately.. "fun!.

As mentioned an ouija board has the alphabet, 1-9 and yes or no inscribed on it.

The ouija board is considered an oracle that acts as a medium between the world we live in and that of the world of earth bound spirits. Mind you when I say spirits because what I mean is that they are not necessarily human spirits.

The danger in using these things, from a paranormal/occult point of view is that people who are inexperienced do not realize what they are dealing with. They can be easily manipulated or accidently unless a spiritual force that may be demonic.

Probably nothing will happen if you and your buddies mess around with it. But at even just a chance of unleashing something unpleasant or being becoming the victim of an attack, why risk it?

If you must use one, make sure you treat any entity with respect - but with skepticism. Do not be taken in by any spirit by its claims alone. That and by using the ouija board what you essentially do is make a bridge between our world and the spirit world. Its a portal more or less and if you open a portal to the otherside, best no how to close it too.

I have to strongly disagree with the mentallity the ouija board is just a toy. Weather you believe in spirits, demons, the occult and magic or not, the psychological impact of meddling with such things can not be understated. Do not mess with anything like that unless you know what you are doing or are willing to accept the risks - even if its just all in your head.

Not ironically the Ouija board was made by a man in i think the early 1900's as a toy, for fortune telling, but what he did not understand is that a Ouija board is not a kid's toy, ages 4 and up my ***, yeah, let a child play around with a Ouija board and summon random spirits, real fun:P to everyone that says a Ouija board is fun needs help, this think is a tool spirits use to contact you, or for you to contact them for that matter, but what most people realize is that ghosts actually can hurt you, my friend Sylvana has visible mark's called ghost scars, and they are real, and this is what happens when ghosts are pissed off if they need to take their anger out at something they will most likely pick a human to do it on, or they will see a similarity between something that happened when they were alive on a human that fits that description or mostly fits that description, and using a Ouija board invites this by sending spirits, most likely bad, demonic ones, into your home to mess with you, and if not careful, or if you do not know how to banish them they will live with you, and they will examine your aura, and mess with it and tempt you to do things, ultimately killing you or hurting you really bad, so the bottom line is, do not mess with something you don't know what you are getting into unless you know exactly how to banish it.

Also when Acid09 said nothing will happen, he is wrong, everytime you will use the Ouija board you will have a spirit come out of it, intentionally, or unintentionally.

Take it from a Wiccan myself, who knows these things, and has delved into Ouija.

Also, I hate it when scientists try to disprove magick, and the occult, as "all in your head" newsflash, scientist's don't know everything.

There are higher powers above us.

The Ouija board is a tool used by mystics to purportedly communicate with the spirit world. There is a link below which describes it in detail. There is a wealth of rumors and anecdotes about Ouija board, usually along the lines of bad luck and purported spirit manifestations as a result of using the board, but it's safe to say there is no objective evidence for this and only subjective fear-mongering. The Ouija board can no more conjure a spirit than can Hungry Hungry Hippos.

The board works via the ideomotor effect, also described below. There's not much reason to think that spirits actually move the planchette when 3 or 4 people are touching it at any one time. In fact, if you blindfold the participants they only produce jibberish and no messages, and this experiment has been done many times.

Yet the rumors and fear-mongering remain as strong as ever, and it is kind of funny to see people freak out over it. I'd recommend going out and getting one (Toys R Us has them) and playing with it with a few friends. Have fun with it, that's what it is for.

ouija board works with are mind when we putfinger on coin or any indigartor our finger has a charge it activate and what we think indigator walk that side,if we  think yes it wil move to yes.with help  ouija board we cant talk t spirts there are many other way to do so ..  so dont wast time on ouija board ..

It's a board with numbers, letters, Yes, No and Goodbye.  It's an old parlor trick used by phony mediums.  You and a friend gently place your finger tips on the indicator (planchette) and ask "spirits" questions.  Then, via the ideomotor effect, you or your friend subconsciously move the planchette to form an answer.  Superstitious people think you're actually communicating with spirits or demons and that you're placing yourself at risk by opening a "portal to the other side".  But it's just the ideomotor effect.

EDIT: Beware of those who use their Wicca or magic"k" status as credentials.  People who believe in Wicca and Magick the Gathering have already demonstrated they are susperstitious and practice magical (rather than rational) thinking, so they really can't be relied upon to give impartial information regarding things like Ouija boards.

Also be wary of people who use phrases like "scientists don't know everything".  Although scientists don't know everything (and never claimed to), it indicates a strong distrust in the natural explanations of events.
