in illinois the law changed b4 january 1st.

before january 1st (2007)if you got your permit youd only need it for 3 months and have to drive for 50 hours

after january 1st(2008) you have to drive 100 hours and have it for 9 months

i got my permit december 29th and would only need it for 3 months

i have all my hours in...and have had them in...its been 7 months...my parents wont lemme get my license...like wtf

what was the point in getting it before the law changed if im not going to get it for awhile anyways? im not a bad driver at all. if i was my mother wouldnt let me drive 50 hours shes scared when people drive her around....

i cant really find a job, the economy is ****** up and noone is hiring at all. ive applied at lik 100 places

so wtf? i need my license...im tired of riding my broke *** bike the thing is falling apart. and i ride that thing everywhere....from snow storms to thunder storms...any weather

adds up to about 20 miles a day on it and my friend lives 20 miles away...

  1. No offense, but maybe you aren't as good as a driver as you think you are.  They may not want to tell you that you are bad, because you might not be bad, you just might not be good enough to make them comfortable and to make the split second decisions that occur when driving.

If it isn't because of your abilities, it might be due to insurance.  When you add your kid onto your insurance, it goes through the roof.  Generally, the longer you have a kid on a permit or if they take lessons, it will take some money off their insurance.

You just need to be patient.  With driving a car there is a ton of responsibility, which reflects when you throw hissy fits about not being allowed to drive.  That shows immaturity and might make your parents not so confident in your maturity to handle a machine that can easily take your life or the life of others.

As for a job, just keep on it.  You will find something.  Riding a bike isn't that bad.  If and when you get a job, see if you can share a ride with someone.  Ask your parents for more time driving.  Just give your parents a break.  Driving is not only big for you, it's huge for your parents.

    Good luck with everything.

  2. My son got his permit a year ago and just renewed it. Its not that we think he is a bad driver, or that he is irresponsible...he is in after school sports, keeps a 3.0 GPA and works every weekend. The problem is, since my hubby and I ride our bikes everywhere, we only have one car, and its a newer car, so insurance for him would be about $1000 extra per year. We cant afford that. So....we give him a permit, let him save for a car (when he can afford that and insurance he can have a license) and in the meantime, anywhere we go as a family, he drives.

boo hoo that your friend lives 20 miles away...i know people who ride bikes to work and live 30 miles away...and yes, even in snow they ride...

  3. If you got your permit before the new law went into effect, you should still be under the jurisdiction of the old law . But, I am not sure what the exact rules are for IL . The online driver handbook shows that you only need 50 hours of behind-the-wheel including 10 hours at night.

You are right on the edge of jumping out on your own (age 18) - calling your own shots, doing your own thing, when you want, with whomever . But for now, you are still under the wing of your folks - driving their vehicle on their insurance under their rules . And it is their call because they are still responsible for you - no matter what you do . Big responsibility . This is the most dangerous time of your life when you think that you are in control of your world and you know everything there is to know about driving . Try to be patient and learn all you can about you and your vehicle before you find out the tragic way that you don't.

    All the best.

  4. Just chill out.  You're going to be working every weekday of your life for the next 50 years.  There's no rush.  Enjoy your youth.

  5. Maybe your mom doesn't think you're responsible/mature/safe enough to have your license yet, so she wants you to get more practice.
