Whats the point of a Pandora Battery? for psp fat?

is a Pandora really needed to hack a psp?

If you brick your psp and i mean not a semi-brick but an actual dead as a doornail brick then you use a pandora battery which is a special battery created using a spare battery and a mem stick which then jigs the psp into life.

Unfortunatly i didnt have one of these when i bricked my first psp.......o well lol
