  1. I don't even see a point for a 'silencer (suppressor)' on a real gun since they don't really silence the discharge but rather muffle it.

  2. That way no one will hear you shooting your toy gun.

  3. They can be used to cover up an extended inner barrel or a tracer unit.

Often people add them to look more 'tacticool'...

  4. Most of the time they are simply added for looks. (they are, of course non-functional) Aftermarket airsoft silencers have no orange tip, and thus they are also used to cover up that eyesore. In a few cases, people buy extended inner "tight-bore" barrels that extend past the rifles flash hider for sniping purposes. In these cases, a silencer is used to cover and protect the extended inner barrel.

  5. Other than cosmetic, none at all.

  6. accuracy on a sniper. if you see one on a pistol it just for looks

  7. Some of my friends claim that it straightens the shot due to the longer barrel. I think this has some (little to none) credibility, since it worked (sort of) with one of my guns but it really has no extreme effect. Since most of the time the silencers have a larger diameter than the actual barrel, it wouldn't do much to stabilize the shot, since the shot is straightest near the muzzle. If you had a 10 ft silencer this might work but I don't know. They also seem to think it increases the velocity, despite the fact that the air pressure behind the BB will expand in the chamber and lose pressure. I don't say anything to them, but I'm pretty sure nothing changes. So the answer is aesthetic purposes.

  8. I think you asked the wrong question.

The real question is - what's the point in owning an airsoft gun?

  9. The "cool" factor.
