  1. Reconnaissance is one mission.

Attack aircraft are designed to attack targets on the ground, normally in support of ground troops.

Bombers do just that, drop bombs on targets of tactical or strategic importance.

Fighters/Interceptors are designed to protect territory, personnel and other aircraft against the opponent's aircraft.

Transport aircraft carry people and material from place to place around the world.

Search & Rescue aircraft, especially including helicopters, are used to find and save wounded, lost or shot-down personnel and bring them back.

AWACS (Airborne Warning And Command System) craft are used to electronically monitor the opposition's activity and to direct strikes against it.

  2. Aircraft is also plural, it doesn't need an s at the end.

Reconnaissance aircraft gather information about people, structures, vehicles, etc.

Other aircraft are used to destroy targets or defend against foes.

Added: of course I am wrong ff, you are here. I was trying to make it very simple, going off the way the question was worded.

  3. There are many different purposes for war aircraft... some just gather intelligence, but many are combat aircraft...

For example the "Lockheed U-2" would be an intelligence plane...

The F-22 Raptor would be more of a war plane....

  4. You are wrong.

The combat aircraft can do a variety of roles like air to air combat, bombing, torpedoing, precision striking, naval strikes, reconnaissance and much more.

Or in other words, in today's world, air superiority can decide the outcome of a conflict and its the war aircraft that gives the air superiority.

Above all they safeguard our skies!

  5. The nose?
