Whats the proper way to plant grass for my front and back yard?

For 2 yaers we've plant grass in our lawn but it never grew or it would grow only in specific places. Whats are ways so we can have a nice green lawn.

  1. plant in spring or fall only. if your yard is construction residue from home building, you may have to add something to condition the soil. you will also have to be very patient.

    the first year, during growing season, water 1-2 times per week. enough to soak the ground but not leave a lot of water standing. half inch to an inch each watering. skip it if enough rain falls.

    do not heavily fertilize either. if you must, a light dressing with a balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10. 27-3-3 has way too much nitrogen for young grass.


  2. I used Scotts Patch Master this year, actually about 3 weeks ago. I have great grass right now, it took about 16 days to germinate everywhere. I tried seeding, it didn't take everywhere.

  3. seed the bare spots in the fall after you have picked up the leaves not too much or to little seed enough to cover the ground but not over lapping if its in the shade use shade seed rake the seed in a little bit and wait for spring
