  1.   they tell what turns are coming next, so the driver can prepare himself better while he is flying around corners at 140 mph (we were watching a rally one time and they turned up the volume on the dudes thing so you could actually hear him, thats how i know)

  2. They read to the driver the course, by numerals. 1 is a very tight turn, while a 5 is a sweeping turn. They also help look out for various hazards out on the course.

For example, " 5 left, into a 4 right, and jump, into a 2 left."

Explanation: There is a sweeping left turn, that leads into a slightly tighter right hand turn, into a jump, which leads into a sharp left turn.

  3. They act as navigator, and keep an eye on the guages. They also help to roll the car back onto the wheels if it goes off the road and ends up on the roof.

  4. They record any information needed of the car functionality and road...

  5. He's Andrew Ridgely to a talented drivers George Michael.

  6. They read the course notes either supplied by the organisers on a continuous paper roll, or prepared by the navigator prior to the event. They have all the turns and distances between reference points and using the Halda measuring equipment in front of them they tell the driver exactly how far to the next turn, what speed to take it at, an what is next after that. They usually are miked up to each other so they can hear through the helmets to block out outside noise.

  7. They read the course maps and time the legs to get the average speeds. They are constantly updating the driver on upcoming obstacles and turns.

  8. To Look Good I Think

  9. The Co-Driver in a Rally Car. Normal has a map of the course...as mud can get all over the window makeing it hard to drive. So in case they have to a Co-Driver can navigate useing the last know postion. They also have Co-Drivers that do the same thing in boat races.

  10. X Games is not a good example of rally at all.  It's unrealistic rally conditions.  The navigator at X Games is useless.  On stage rallies the navigator reads Jamba notes or stage notes and describes the course as its taken at speed.  Being stages are often miles apart; the navigator will direct the driver to the next stage and keep the team on time being there is a time allowance between transits.

  11. He's the navigator.
