  1. Stupidity

  2. Raw diet believed to be the natural diet even before human invention and use of fire, bow and axes. From this point everyone would agree with that.

The History of Macrobiotics and raw foodism started even 6 thousand years ago by anscient sages from India. The science and philosophy of raw food is well explained in Ayurvedic doctrine.

Raw Food is a term most commonly used in the food industry to describe food that has not been cooked or otherwise processed.

Raw Food is also a term often used in reference to a raw food diet or a raw vegan diet. The raw food diet is considered to be a healthy lifestyle. There is no central book or author but rather there are many websites created by raw foodists who write about variations of this lifestyle. The authors are often people who have cured themselves of various diseases via the raw food diet. Popular authors include Jinjee and Storm Talifero authors of "The Garden Diet" (http://www.thegardendiet.com), David Wolfe author of "Nature's First Law" (http://www.rawfood.com) and Victoria Boutenko author of "12 Steps to Raw" (http://www.rawfamily.com).

The raw food diet has been credited for curing asthma, allergies, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, learning disabilities, depression, candida, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, and many other conditions.

    Gabriel Cousens MD

Gabriel Cousens is also a leading raw foodist. He has a health retreat is southern Arizona called the Tree of Life Rejuvenation Center. It is a well established health retreat where many people with health ailments go to get attention to their diseases through raw food, fasting and detoxification. Many people believe it to be the most established raw food associated center in the United States.

  3. people feel that it's healthier than a vegan diet because they feel like they are killing the enzymes and other nutrients that are present in the food, and that nutrition is lost when you don't eat live food.  They see the cooked food as dead.

That said, as the second poster pointed out, some foods need to be cooked to release nutrients.  I'd say moderation is the key: eat a mixture of cooked and uncooked foods.

  4. Reason has nothing to do with the raw vegan diet.

Many foods cannot be eaten and digested in their raw forms. When vegetables are cooked (somethings humans have been doing for over a million years), the indigestible cellulose breaks down and allows the human gut to get nutrients from it.

Some foods, like grains, potatoes and beans, are actually indigestible and toxic unless cooked and processed.

Also, many of the plant foods we eat today are not natural, but rather the product of hundreds or thousands of years of selective breeding.

I don't have a high opinion of any vegan diet - I think it is unhealthy and unnatural. But then again, vegan diets are usually healthier than the standard American diet.

Christine, I've read plenty of stories about people eating a raw vegan diet, especially children, showing up at hospitals suffering from malnutrition.

  5. Because food in its natural form is the most healthy and nutritious. Have you ever met a raw vegan? They glow with health and have beautiful hair, skin and eyes. Raw vegans see an increase in energy when adopting this lifestyle for a while... When you cook food, you're not getting any enzymes in your diet at all.. so you get old.
