  1. I wouldn't want to see them cut me and strectch my tummy wide open. Yuck.

  2. This is to ensure that the mother does not suffer any mental trauma during surgery. It can be scary to see someone digging into your insides.

  3. i wouldnt want to see my own csection if i had one!! lol. i would totally pass out!! ugh..

  4. Most people cannot handle watching themselves operated on mentally and/or most people would not want to.  A lot of places will allow the curtain to be lowered in order for you to watch but the mom should speak with their doctor or the hospital first to find out.

  5. My husband was instructed to NOT look past the curtain during my c-section.

As far as seeing past, you're not going to be able to move around so you wouldn't be able to see past it anyway.  I do remember seeing myself laying there after it was over and they turned off the bright light... I could see my reflection in the troffer.  I remember watching them doing something... I can't remember what they were doing (I was kind of out of it because it was done at 2:00 AM.)

I also think it's done as a way to keep the area sterile.

  6. because they think that seeing that might freak the mom out. that would be my guess

  7. It's up for a couple of reasons. One, as a barrier between the mother and her partner, who haven't been as thouroughly sanitized as the doctors have, and the open surgical sight. And two, so the mother won't see her insides cut wide open and freak out.

Personally, I wanted to see my son be born, and asked them to lower the curtain, and they did.

It was, of course, at a very odd angle, so I wish they would've allowed a video recording to be made so I could watch it later.

As for letting the dad 'watch', well, my husband was made to sit on a little stool by my head while the surgury part was going on, and they told him when to stand up and watch the baby come out.
