  1. it's the rule

  2. Because,The Chess pieces are Racist...L.O.L.....

  3. Please see my personal web page: http://www.chesmayne.info The first player to make the first move [white] has a slight advantage ie, always one step ahead of 'black'.  If 'white' plays perfect play then white will win the game [but this sometimes does not happen].  In traditional western chess each player plays once as white and once as black to even out this problem - you see?

  4. I think, the first chess allow both of player decide it by random at beginning, but after some times, peoples need a quick and simple rules, so they decide which color must play first. And because usually white chosen in the beginning, they decide if the white must move first ten te black one.

  5. Well, if it was the other way you'd probably be asking why is does the black piece always go first!!! It's just one of those things!!!

  6. Its actually who's queen is on the white or light colored square....There are different colored chess pieces other than black and white.

  7. Because that's the current rule.

Actually, back in the 19th century, there was no such rule. Either player could move first. Since the board is symmetric, having the first move is the important part. The colors of the pieces are irrelevant.
