  1. Specific gravity, It is mass of any substance in relation to an equal volume of water.

    Density, It is the ratio of mass to volume.(a quality of being dense)


  2. Specific gravity is the ratio of the density of a given solid or liquid substance to the density of water at a specific temperature and pressure.

    Specific gravity is a ratio and therefore dimensionless. Density is a numerical expression of mass per unit volume. However, because water has a density of 1 in many measurement systems, density and specific gravity frequently have the same numerical value. It's just that one has units and the other does not.
