I have this amp http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=mrp%2Dm1000&i=500MRP1000

and 2 of these subs http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?search=type+r+1242d&i=500SWR1242

right now theyre each getting 300rms.. is there a way i could buy a 400rms x1 @ 4ohm amp and give them each 200 more watts, or does one amp have to go to one sub? I really want to maximize these subs without having to buy an $800 alpine amp. thanks for the help

  1. save ur self the hassle of having 2 amps.

since you are using dual 4 ohm voice coil subs, search around for an amp that gives 1000 watts RMS at 1 ohm load.

the system will be much louder and you only have to setup one amp. makes things much easier and cleaner.

btw, i dont think alpine makes a 1 ohm stable amp right now.
