I'm looking to buy a car that would realistically carry 4 adults and a dog, yet not be a monster people mover taking up half plus of any road or have a monster fuel guzzling engine.

Any suggestions ?

  1. if you don't mind throwing the dog in the boot, maybe killing it in the process, get a Toyota Yaris, lots of space and there is a 1 litre version so good on petrol, i bought a 2005 1.0 yaris the other day, for when i pass my test which im taking soon.

But seriously, its a good small car, good on petrol with lots of space, not 100% if it has space for the dog, if you put a seat at the back down then maybe yes

this is the new model btw

  2. A good second hand mini estate. Or you try a model T ford. Sorry you said UK. Is there a UK owned car manufacturer in this country any more?

  3. well, realistically a small hatchback would fit four adults with a dog in the boot.....up until about 4 months ago i had a peugeot 106, 2 door hatchback.....2 people in the front, 2 in the back, and the dog in the hatchback bit......i gave up in the end and bought a 7 seater laguna estate, but if you want small then as i said, i think any small hatchback would suit u.

  4. This is not a current news event - try posting in the appropriate section.

  5. How big are the adults, how big is the dog?  What size of journey do you regularly take?  I have medium/large cars, can't get on with small weedy hatchbacks.  If I had a little economy-car, I would save money... and would want to buy a bigger car with it!  And don't write bigger cars out of the equation completely.  A small engine working very hard to move a full load around will drink, and will wear out quicker than a larger engine which can be far more relaxed, and relaxing to drive.

I have a very fast Alfa Romeo 75 and a Mercedes 190E at the moment.  The Alfa is for manic fun, and I will start using it on the race-track soon,  the Mercedes is built like a bank-vault, every journey is a pleasure in a silent, safe, comfortable, fast (if need be) cocoon.  Live a little!

  6. You don't say new or used, which is a pity. Hmm.

I'd say a Ford Mondeo diesel estate. Not glamourous, not expensive, not thrilling in performance (though not bad at all), roomy and easy to drive, and no money at all second hand. Good car, that.
