  1. 243 is the smallest I would go, I hunt with 30/30 on deer and hog, but I have 45/70 and 7.62X54r

  2. the only requirement, is that the gun, be a center fire or muzzle loading gun

  3. The Georgia hunting regulations simply say you need at least a .22 centerfire to hunt deer in Georgia.

  4. I don't know about legally in the State of Georgia but ethically and morally a hunter should never hunt with sub-caliber firearms. Any .22 (rim-fire or center-fire) is too small for deer hunting.  The minimum deer caliber is the .243 Winchester.  The .25-06 Remington is even better.  Remember, shot-placement is a must each and every time you hunt.  What is even more important is to match the caliber and rifle you are using to the game you are hunting.  This is why we have deer rifles, buffalo guns, elephant guns and dangerous game rifles.

    Happy hunting.

  5. here you go, and it looks like you can hunt them with a .22 but it has to be centerfire. i personally would not do that though.
