18k is usually stamped on the clasp.  Please go to a jewelry store, it may cost more but in the long run, will be worth it.  The next piece of jewelry you need, go there too.  They love repeat customers and if anything happens, it breaks or the clasp breaks they'll fix it for a nominal fee. (the clasp broke on my favorite chain $4.00  and ten minutes later I had my chain back)

You can buy it at the mall at a kiosk but will they be there next week, next month, or next year.?

Another thing you need to remember is the price of gold seems to be going up on a daily basis.  The stores change their prices to reflect the gold market.  Just like gas.  They buy it at lets say $400.00/ounce.   As the price of gold goes up, they'll sell at today's price which could  be $700.00/ounce.

Comparison shop.  Check out several stores then go back to the one who is the best for price.  Ask, if anything happens, (breakage,) do they have someone in house that will do the repair or will they have to send it out?  Do you want to be without it that long?
