Women keep saying this to me, but they never explain why anyone would want to hang a donkey.  It's idiotic.

Looking at a horse's teeth used to be the customary way of finding out it's age.  

"Don't look a gift horse in the mouth." just means that if something is given to you free of charge, there is no real need to question whether or not it is value for money.  It's also considered discourteous to ask how much someone payed for your present.

anything and everything to come out of George W. Bush's mouth in the last 8 or so years. My favorite, though: "I'm a decider." in three words, he undermines the basic tenants of English grammar and rhetoric. He needs to go back to Junior High, and someone needs to keep him away from the blow.
