Whats the thing where when you scratch a certin penny it works as 25cent in a vending machine?

Not possible. Pennies and quarters are made of different metals, are different sizes and different weights. A vending machine couldn't possibly mistake one for the other, scratched or not.

Whoever showed you how to do it was probably playing a trick on you and snuck a quarter into the machine when your back was turned.

I agree,  I had a vending business for 8 years and I never received a penny or slug in any of the machines.   The electronics in the coin acceptor are too intelligent to fall for the old tricks.  Perhaps the machine you seen this done on was an old vending machine.

Better luck next time,  besides even if you could do this, it would make you a thief.  Not something to be proud of.
