  1. The ultimate purpose is to inform the public of news, and what is happening around the world.

    It is to a much lesser degree to entertain the masses as well.


  2. Journalist try to present news people want to read and news people need to read.  The trick is to get people to read what they need to know.

    The purpose of publishers is to make money by using journalists to attract a large audience and therefore amass advertising revenue.

    People often confuse journalism and the news media....they ain't really the same animal.
