Whats the usb sign on my modem?

i know this might sound noobish. my modem has signs that say power, Ethernet 1,2,34, USB, Wireless, and so on.

I was wondering what the USB part is for. I hooked the USB cable (that came when we got our service ) from the modem to the computer. Nothing seemed to change. Whats it for?

It's just another means of connecting the modem to  your computer.  With the Ethernet connexion you need to either have a built in network adapter of use a network card.  If you use the USB connexion, you will need to install a driver on your computer.  You cannot use both the USB and Ethernet connexions simultaneously, it's either one or the other.
