Whats the word for when you don't fully appreciate something until it is lost?

neglected doesnt quite fit because I didnt misuse it i just didnt fully realise i had it

you could say "i was blind to the true freedom" or something like that

why can't you just say  what you just said? I don't think there is a word for that.
