  1. You're definitely wise to consider the consequences in advance! Honestly, many of them can be avoided if you find a reputable tattoo artist. Ask friends in your area about their experiences, and even travel to the closest city if you have to...usually if the parlor has won awards or is a member of a professional organization, they're more reputable. Also, make sure that they use clean needles (and that you even see them open the package in front of you). Here are some risks from the CDC about tattoos. Don't be scared, though, if you do your research and find someone good - I was terrified as well (with a low tolerance for pain!) and had no complications whatsoever with my tattoo. Good luck and hope you enjoy it! :)

    *  Blood-borne diseases. If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with the blood of an infected person, you can contract a number of serious blood-borne diseases. These include hepatitis C, hepatitis B, tetanus, tuberculosis and HIV — the virus that causes AIDS.

      * Skin disorders. Your body may form bumps called granulomas around tattoo ink, especially if your tattoo includes red ink. Tattooing can also cause areas of raised, excessive scarring (keloids), if you're prone to them.

    * Skin infections. Tattoos can lead to local bacterial infections. Typical signs and symptoms of an infection include redness, warmth, swelling and a pus-like drainage. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked clusters of potentially serious antibiotic-resistant skin infections to unlicensed tattoo artists who don't follow proper infection-control procedures. Some antibiotic-resistant skin infections can lead to pneumonia, blood infections and a painful, flesh-destroying condition called necrotizing fasciitis.

    * Allergic reactions. Tattoo dyes, particularly red dye, can cause allergic skin reactions, resulting in an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This may occur even years after you get the tattoo.

    * MRI complications. Rarely, tattoos or permanent makeup may cause swelling or burning in the affected areas during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. In some cases — such as when a person with permanent eyeliner has an MRI of the eye — tattoo pigments may interfere with the quality of the image.

Medications may be necessary if you develop an allergic reaction, infection or other skin disorder. In some cases, permanent tattoo removal is required to resolve the complication.

  2. If you're this scared, then maybe you shouldn't be getting one. Go speak to a trained professional, who will be more than happy to share with you what he/she knows. In the end, it's all up to you and not what a bunch of strangers on the internet tell you.

  3. Don't be scared. A consequence is that it hurts but it should anyway seeing as it's ink being inserted into a deeper layer of skin. The pain goes away, itching, scabbing, annoying twitches, and however else your body reacts to healing can happen but also goes away. It's really not a dumb question, you just need to talk to an artist to get your fears put to rest by a professional. Staying calm is the key thing. Some times allergic reactions to colors can occur, none of my friends have ever had problems with that though and as far as the numerous artists I know have experienced, this is a rare reaction. It's really very safe with the guidelines, health codes and lengths taken to promote a clean work place. If you go to someone shady, because it's cheap or they are a family member or whatever then you run a risk of God only knows what and are asking for trouble. Professionals are careful, so pay the extra, do your portfolio work and ask questions where you can get the right answers (like going to an artist about price or if something would turn out right) and you have no reason to worry. I say, if you want it, go for it. Put the effort into being sure and it will all work out just fine.

  4. To be completely honest, don't listen to most of these A**holes. Most of them most likely don't have tattoos, and are not interested in learning the  the positive to all the negative things they hear.

Yes, a tattoo can get infected. Do your research before you get one, find a shop you're comfortable with. Ask questions, artists are usually more than happy to answer them. As long as they are clean and assuming you do as they ask of you, and take care of it.... There's hardly ever a problem.

Regret: You'll regret your tattoo if you don't plan it out. Make it really mean something to you. So even when your old, nasty and wrinkly you can look at it and say "wow, those were some good times".

Diseases: Again with the clean studio thing. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Go to several shops, ask questions, hang out, see how your potential artist operates. Always make sure they open a clean needle in front of you. Using a needle more than once, and on more than one person is the most dangerous thing you could encounter.

Hope I helped a little bit.

  5. 1. Possible chance of infection, get a decent shop and look after it and it will be fine.

    2. Possible allergic reaction, can happen, but not that often.

    3. It feels a bit sore, but it's not agony.

    4. You may have regrets, but if you think about for enough time (I give myself a year) you'll be fine.

  6. infections and when you get old (depending on how you age and where the tattoo is) it will sag with your skin and then you will regret it. sometimes people don't hire those who have tattoos, oh yeah a a heck of a lot of pain! my friend got one and she is saving up just to get rid of the thing

  7. Regret, infection

  8. Well I know that some places you are not allowed to have tatoos (school, work...) so if you get one get one in a place that you can cover with clothes. So a side effect could be not getting into a school or not being hired for a job!!

  9. well you could always get an infection, or other things. Here’s a website, I hope it clears things up for you.

  10. nothing if you get it done at a clean tat shop and take care of it

  11. like others have said you can get infection, disease etc.  Most of this is not likely anymore though due to the health department regulations.  check around and find one that has been open for a long time or one that a friend/coworker/family member suggests as good.

as far as what kind to get, just think about it and ask yourself what it will mean to you in 20 or so years.  NEVER get peoples names on you unless it is your child's name.

I have 2 tats so far and am happy about both of them.  one is the greek masks (comedy/tragedy) made into a yellow angel and red devil with the word gemini under it (we geminis have 2 personalities).  the other is a green rabbit (green for the emerald, rabbit for chinese zodiacs).  they both mean a lot to me and I will never regret them due to their meaning to me.

    I hope this helps.

  12. You could get aids if its a crappy shop that doesn't change its needles in between tattoos. You need to talk to your tattoo artist and make sure he sterilizes his machines and needles. If he doesnt and he tattoos a person with an std and then tattoos YOU with the same needles you will get it. But as long as you have a good tattooist the worst is regret.

  13. Infection and regretting it and it not turning out the way you wanted.

  14. You will be stuck with it and may get sick of it after a few years.

  15. If you believe in fairy tales then you might be risking the eternal damnation of your soul.

There is also the chance that you will get a nasty infection and suffer unduly until you die a painful death.

it could also be that the pain of the repeated application of a needle to your skin will cause you to falter, swoon or cry. Then you are at risk to be ridiculed for the rest of you days by the sundry denizens of the tattoo parlor. .

The greatest risk is that you'll be really delighted with your new art. You'll get all smug about your new bold statement of independence. Then you'll be back in the parlor for another....and another...and another...and just ione more.......and one for your birthday .....and one cause you're on vacation.....

Of all the risks the greatest will be that you will become addicted to ink.

  16. hepititis-spelling? Like Pamela Anderson.

  17. you can get skin cancer..

  18. Probably the fact that it will never come off,

and when your and old person you'll have a

    wrinkly tattoo.

    LOL.

  19. The artist can get the patterns mixed up in the studio, and you end up with 'BORN DEAD' on your back.

  20. one of my friends had one that gat exreamly infected and scarred all over it

  21. http://tattoo.about.com/

  22. OK....if you go to a reputable Tattoo place, not some shady place in a back alley you will be totally 100% fine. I know what I am talking about. I have a lot of tattoo work.

Make sure, absolutley 110% sure that what you get is something you want on your body for the rest of your life. Having tattoos removed is possible but it is expensive and VERY painful. Tattoos are forever and should be chosen carefully, soberly and sensibly. If for any reason you think that you may regret getting it a few years down the line or if it is someone's name (band member, boyfriend, pet etc...) DO NOT get it. Fads come and go, boyfriends come and go...tattoos don't go anywhere!

Once you have decided what it is you want find a good tatoo shop with experienced artists. Look on the walls when you go in and see if they have any certificates of merit or tattooing trophies. Talk to the artist and don't be afraid to ask questions. If they know what they are talking about they should be able to answer any Tattoo related questions you may have.  The really good artists who know their trade will make you feel as comfortable as possible before you get the tattoo.

Don't try to haggle the price either. You are paying for the artists time and expertise. Ask to see some of the work he/she has done before and see if you like it and if they are worth the price they are asking.  My last tattoo cost me $900 and I was a little skeptical that the guy could do what he was saying he could but when I saw his portfolio I was impressed enough to hand over that kind of money and he did not fail to live up to his reputation....I got a great tattoo!

Does it hurt...yes!  Anyone who tells you that it doesn't is either lying to make themselves look tough or has never had one done. It depends on the part of the body where you get it done. The worst place is on the ribs then the elbows and then knee caps. The crook of the elbow is not fun either...top of the foot, ankle, wrists...all boney places. Places with more fat on them are not as bad but you will still feel the needles. The pain is an integral part of the tattoo process and you should experience it. Don't drink before or you will thin your blood and bleed more making it harder for the artist and make the tattoo take longer.

A lot of people have tattoos and sometimes I wonder what they were thinking when they got what they got but everyone has a specific reason for what they get. If you have found something that really means something pretty heavy in your life then I say go for it. If you keep it clean and do what the artist tells you to do to look after it post tattoo then you will be fine, no infections.

Good luck...oh and one more thing....once you get one....you want more!!!

  23. You wake up tomorrow and realize

You have not grown up yet. Please

    think before you ink !!!!!!!!
