Because, my friend wants to give me a 9 week old...aren't they kinda big?

I want a small kitten. Or do shelters only let you take them when they're older too?

  1. I think you can only adopt one when they hit a certain age. Not sure though. I know they have to eat cat food and not milk anymore. As for a name I like Bailey or Riley. Good luck.

  2. the youngest you can adopt kittens can be 6 weeks. If they are taken away from their mothers any sooner, they can act in strange ways. They will knead (paw your furniture, etc.) and suck on fluffy things that they think is mom. Most shelters wait until they are at least 6 weeks to adopt out to people. 6 weeks is TINY for a kitten so my kitten's 6 months and he's still small for a cat! You'll enjoy the kitten size for at least a year and a half before he reaches mature size.

  3. A kitten should not really ne separated from its mother till twelve weeks.  Sometimes shelters find orphaned kittens or take in very young feral kittens for taming so you may get a younger one there.  That should really be important though.  If you sre just getting a kitten to be tiny and cute do you not know you will get up to twenty years of big cat?

  4. You should not accept a kitten under the age of 9 weeks old. They still need their mothers up until that age. If you get a kitten that is too young, it may die, because it isnt getting the nutrition that it needs from its mother. I think you should have your friends kitten, she sounds lovely

  5. If you can find a young kitten in a shelter (BIG IF because thats what EVERYONE wants) you can usually adopt a kitten from a shelter as soon as they are old enough to be fixed, which is about 2 months (8 weeks). They wont let you adopt UNTIL they have been fixed. So a nine week old kitten is a good find.

Also, if it is a pure bred Manx, that is an expensive cat, I'd take it! lol

Hmm... if she was mine, I think, by the description, I'd name her Tenshi. (It means Angel in Japanese)

  6. 9 weeks is still small!

There is a whole year or two left of extreme-kitten left in a 9 week old baby.  9 weeks is still really young.

The youngest you can get from a shelter is 8 weeks-10 weeks.

As for names, do research on the internet for cat names and you'll come up with tons!

    Stormy?

  7. 9 weeks is a great age for a kitten, and it will still be a kitten for a very long time don't worry and it will be small!. Most shelters will only give up cats for adoption at about 8 or 9 weeks so they can get their first set of shots so they can build up some immunity to dieases.

Its also a great idea to get 2 kittens at the same time as one can get lonely and they can play together.

    You could call it smokey.

  8. If you REALLY want a young one, you might try to foster some newborn orphans.  Generally a kitten should remain with its mother until at least 8 weeks...12-14 is preferable for socialization purposes.
