ok so you can own a handgun and its perfectly legal as long as its registered and everything, but if you have it put in a pocket or bag, you can be arrested for having a concealed weapon, so what you should walk around with it on your back or in your hand, surely then you'd get the swat on you aim ther weapons at you with 5 secs to drop the weapon!

can someone please explain this to me cuase i dont get it!?

  1. Laws differ from place to place. Some places allow you to have guns and carry them pretty much where ever you go.

Other places allow you to have them, but don't allow you to carry them in public.

Still others don't allow guns at all (but with the recent Supreme Court decision, it looks like those laws are going down).

  2. It all depends on the State you live in. I some states you are required to have a concealed carry permit.  In some other states you cannot carry a loaded weapon for any reason.  In those states, your weapon has to be in one part of your vehicle and the ammunition has to be locked in another part.  It is a confusing MESS all because some liberal jerks think the police can protect us better than we can protect ourselves.  Only law abiding people follow the law so what is the point of making laws restricting law abiding people from carrying weapons?

  3. You can get a permit to carry a concealed hand gun in some states

you must first take a safty course in my home state of Ohio.

  4. In bigger cities, local ordinances also prescribe carrying a weapon that is exposed.  Even in cities where it is not illegal, it is so contrary to the culture, that police would indeed be interested.  No arrest should result, but certainly there would be interest.  However, in much of the country, they would think nothing of seeing a person with a holstered pistol.  Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean it isn't understandable.

  5. You can own a handgun or any  long gun(excluding machine guns, a federal license is needed) provided that you are not a convicted felon and pass a background check confirming this. Very few States in the US require the registration of any gun that a person owns. However some cities do, even if the State does not.

Most states allow citizens to carry a concealed handgun if they apply for a permit to do so. There are exceptions to this, two states do not allow CCW, Illinois and Wisconsin. And the state of Vermont does not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Some states have a "shall issue" clause that prohibits the State Govt. from determining if a person has a legitimate need to so so and others states require the person prove a legitimate need to carry a concealed weapon. Many states also have reciprocity agreements in recognizing another state's CCW permit as valid in their state. Some don't. The NRA source cited by another person is an excellent guide.

Historically Florida was the first state to allow CCW for it's residents. Despite the complaints from Gun opponents, their predictions of the return of the "wild west" shoot outs hasn't happened. SO much so that other states began to adopt CCW.

    Hope this helps.

And yes, some of the states in the western US still allow for the open carry of a firearm in public. No permit required.

  6. It depends on the state. Some states allow you to carry concealed, some do not.

  7. You actually won't get in trouble if you just walk around with it in plain sight, that's the correct way to do it, without getting in trouble. My friends and I used to walk around with AK47's strapped to our backs in public places for fun, scare the sh*t out of everyone there, but we could never get in trouble for it.
