Question:

Whats up with a one day period?

I use orthotricyclin. My doctor told me that the green pills ( the pills taken during the week of my menstrual cycle) were sugar pills so I don't use them. This past cycle I only had my period for one day. This is alarming as I am sexually active. What does this mean? I was active during the week of my cycle. I'm concerned that the pills dont work as a preventative during your period and I've heard you can get pregnant during your period? If anyone can shine a little light on the facts in the situation I'd appreciate it.

  1. The side effects for orthotricyclin:

Many women notice side effects that are a bother, but are not dangerous to their health. Such common problems include slight swelling and tenderness of the b*****s, weight gain of about 2-5 pounds, nausea, spotting or a slight bloody mucous discharge in the middle of a menstrual cycle. Many of these problems go away after the first few months of use.

Other side effects that may occur are: increase or decrease in acne; decreased lubrication during intercourse; darkening of skin on face; mood change; increase or decrease in s*x drive.

Spotting (light bleeding - no tampon needed) or breakthrough bleeding (heavier bleeding and tampon needed) occasionally occur between menstrual periods, especially during the first three months of pill use. If either occurs continue to take your pills as directed and be sure to keep an accurate record of when during your cycle this happened. These symptoms usually disappear within the first three months. If they persist please return to the Student Health Center for further evaluation

  2. FIRST, pills are suppressing hormones and it could be pretty short period but it is not a good symptom for future use of this brand of pills (for you!). Every body reacting very specifically.

SECOND, it is not possible to become pregnant during menstruation for several reasons.

THIRD, in general the best modern contraception is dual contraception. Read more below
