Whats up with my teacher?

So i have this teacher... he is really scary. The first day of school he tells us to sit in seat not say a wrod and read his rules. Everyday he would make u s make flashcards for hw and we didn even use them...ok well here is the worst part if u said one tiny litle word or anything to anyone else he woukld give detention. during class he always leaves for a few minutes sometimes 10 minutes. what is wrong with him? should he be reported?

some teachers are crazy like that,  they can pretty much do what they want. maybe he leaves for a few minutes to go to the restroom

Get used to it, Some teachers teach like that.  My French teacher was just the same, used to walk around the class slapping a ruler on his palm and pretending life was a military operation.

If there was something wrong with his teaching the school would have got rid of him by now through his poor results, so he must be doing something right.  I assume the flash cards are for your revision.  You might want to try using them sometime.

Umm nope he is just a strict teacher! But you could tell the counsilor or the principal about him if you really want to.

Perhaps he is expecting you to take responsibility for yourselves - when he leaves the class do you stay quiet and working or do you start shouting and messing about?

He is hoping that you will learn to work on your own without his supervision and therefore become self diciplined.

No, he is just a strict teacher. Every teacher has their own way of teaching and dealing with behavioral issues but he deals with them in a structured strict way. If you are a respectful, hard working, nice, good behaved student he probably wont be as hard on you and about detentions, if you dont want detentions then dont speak out.

I have worked with a teacher very much like this. I think he is basically insecure. He uses the detention as a way to in force order. He is scared that if he allows you to talk or do more interactive activities that he will not be able to recall you to order. These type of teachers are often highly strung - that is why he needs to leave the room. Other teachers often look up to these teachers as they see the quite classroom as an achievement.Really the achievement comes from delivering a 'fun' lesson whilst maintaining your integrity and learning standard. My boss always rotated the teachers classes with others in the department or made them 50/50 class share with a more easy going member of staff. The flashcards are just a revision tool. Just making them can help you retain the information. He doesn't need reporting as such - just hope you don't have him for a second year.

The sitting in the seat and not talking is no big deal, all he wants is respect.

The flashcards may be for study preperation, i.e. tests, exam. They are a useful tool and maybe he wanted you guys to get into the habit of using them.

On the leaving part, you do not know what he is doing, he may be talking to the prinicipal, getting a glass of water or whatever.

No, he should not be reported, because he cannot get punished for that, because all you are saying is that he wants no talking and leaves the class, and you would look pretty foolish saying that to somebody.

He is fine, there should be more teachers like this, teachers from 'the old school'.
