  1. Are they directed towards the election - polls, etc.?  I've gotten a few like that.

According to an article I cut out and saved, it says the 'do no call list' is now permanent.  (I thought it already was!)

    You can call:       1- 888-382-1222

                           or

    go to:                   www.donotcall.gov

to be put on the new list.  I've not been there yet.

    Good luck!

  2. I think u can go to the do not call website and register ur number........www.donotcall.gov I think?

  3. Oh God yesss!!....they are a major pain in the A.S.S.   of course we have had this number for many years...in recent years these folks have had the upper hand because of deregulation by the Bush administration......hang in there, and try to get on the ''NO CALL'' list.

  4. wanna know the BEST way to get rid of them?

There are plenty of great jokes/pranks to play on them, but this one tops the cake, I think.

When they call asking for 'Mrs. Smith" or whoever, say "Sure. They'll be back soon. They're on vacation, but just started driving back from Vancouver (or another far-away city). Hold the line, please"

then... put the phone down. Not on hold, just put it down, and walk away. Every 10 minutes or so, come back, and give an 'update', for example "They had to stop and get gas, so it's going to take a bit longer. Sorry about that!" and then put the phone down again.  It's even better if you can make them feel really awkward by saying/doing strange things so they can overhear, like pretending to have s*x, or whatever.

Most telemarketer's phone systems, I've been told, have a problem/feature where if the person on the other line doesn't hang up, the phone line is monopolized, so the telemarketer can't make any more calls.  A few hours of this, and you'll certainly be added to their "do not call" list. :)

  5. You are not going to believe this but one of the main ways they get your number is you give it out. You can't give your number to light-gas-water company- they will sell it quick and your new address. Insurance companies buy and sell numbers also. Mortgage companies buy and sell numbers. I have learned that you can't call a bill company you owe with this block *67 and the number, because they will get your number and sell it.(home numbers) When they ask your number give them a wrong number, don't trust any bill or businesses. My last number got so terrorized that I had to change it -it was ringing 10 -1 for telesales calls as opposed to my personal calls. So I changed the number and so far its been a peaceful almost 2yrs. They sale your address the same way-plenty of junk mail.
