I am not a racist 1st and foremost. I am just curious as to what brought on the stereotype that Asians cant drive. It just seems that most peoples roadrage( or at least from what i've seen) is geard towards Asians. Just curious.....

  1. From the avatars, I assume all answerers are Caucasians.  It's a known fact that Asians and Hispanics are non-aggressive drivers while white drivers are known for their recklessness and impatience.  They speed, tailgate, jump lanes, swirl, commit road rage and get into fights.  Asians are cautious drivers and perceived as "too slow", "getting in my way"...hence the label "Asians can't drive".  Anyone got time to get some stats from the insurance companies and the DMVs to see what drivers cause most accidents?

  2. Hmm. I haven't heard of that.  The stereotypes about bad drivers (which AREN'T true) that I've heard have been against women.  ....and old people.

  3. I never got that one myself.

  4. i think this stereotype is so true(no offence to anybody!)but they are just overall bad drivers. i can always tell when it's an asian that's driving.also recently, an asian lady, backed up and hit my car, and my car was parked. so idk. i think it's true. i try to stay away from them as much as possible while driving. but they are not all the same, just most of them. (LOL)

  5. I think it's because of asian's chinky eyes. With that sterotype people start to think they can't see. -_-

Im Filipino, so not racial offense intended.

  6. I think it is mostly due to the fact that, all Asian countries drive on the left side of the road. So the traffic rules are exactly opposite. If someone has good driving experience back home, they might find it difficult in right hand traffic. It is like forcing a left handed person do everything with his right hand. :)

Personally, I used to drive carefully than usual. This might explain the "slowness".

  7. It is true, i almost got into so many accidents with Asian drivers. sometime i even thought they were drunk because some would slow down for no apparent reason or swerve. I'm not racist, I'm engaged to a filipino man, lol... luckily he can drive.

  8. Well. this Asian girl at my work got in 4 car recks with no one else in site besides the raod and her car..

    how wonder how?..

    LOL..

    and she's only half Asian..

but hey, she can't drive worth a hoot, and she admits it and

forbid it's raining, she's afraid she'll reck in the rain..

    she's only 24.

My point is, stereotypes have some truth to it..

it seems like a lot of people in that sub culture..tend to act the way people base

  9. I hate to say it, but this stereotype exists for a reason.  It seems everytime there is a car going about 45-50 mph on the freeway in my big-city downtown when everyone else is going 65-70 mph, I say to myself, "I bet that's an Asian person driving."  Sure enough, almost every time it's an Asian person driving.

However, there are lots of other driving stereotypes - people from Colorado cannot drive on the flat, people who drive BMWs and SUVs are rude and pushy on the road, etc.

  10. This is total MYTH!!!

I know few different races have more accident in driving their cars more than Asians driving.

Please don't be a feeble minded!

    That not true.

  11. Honestly, I didn't know that this was a stereotype until I saw that one Family Guy episode where one of the characters made a joke about something being used less than the turn signal in an Asian woman's car.

I guess it came about just like all other stereotypes.  A few people from that group were like this, and now all members of the group get lumped in with them.

  12. I think it's a true stereotype. I live in a major metropolitan city and I pick the Asian driver EVERY time without fail. They have a certain way of driving that does not work well with American roads.
