It depends on what grade you're in. Nonetheless, here are some good books that I have read:

Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

(about: Two immigrant workers, one who is small and has quick wits, and the other is a big guy who has a mild mental disability. Story takes place in a ranch.)

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain

(about: Huck Finn encounters adventures with his slave, Jim. Full of tidbits of adventures and various characters.)

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

(about: A futuristic society in which reading books is illegal. Firemen are supposed to burn books and burn those who read them. The protagonist, Guy Montag, realizes the value of reading books and encounters obstacles with literature and the people against them.)

A Farewell to Arms by Ernest Hemingway

(about: a romance between an ambulance driver and a nurse. Setting is World War II. Henry and Catherine, the lovers, develop their feelings for eachother quickly throughout the novel..)

If for school.. Then "The Great Gatsby" .. "Of Mice and Men" .. "Rebecca" .. are really great :) .. My personal choice would definitely be the Harry Potter series .. Its fascinating.. Entertaining.. and a lotta lessons! :D
