  1. Why would anyone not want to live?  Living is great!

  2. because life after death scares the beejeezus outta me. and i have 2 be around to show my kids that even though there are some bad things/people here we also have some exceptional things also   like the air we breath and the people we have around us

  3. Well my reason. I amonly 19 years old and I've already griefed a lot and loved, and smiled. But all sad moments I had in life are barely comparable to the limited, but perfect moments I've lived.

So, I think, if I have laughed so much and lived so d**n perfect experiences, lif should have at least one more perfect second to share with me, and I will pay the price of living just for how nice may that second be!

    Hope you likemy answer!

  4. Because I'm scared.

I admit it. I'm a Christian, and although I have more liberal views about my religion, I don't know whether I'll end up in heaven, h**l, or Timbuktu. But hey...Earth seems nice enough, so maybe I'll just stay here for a few more decades.

  5. After work, the four members of the marketing team went to the pub for their weekly get-together. Unlike the past, today's subject was a heavy one. Instead of talking about sports, politics, or women, they broached the subject of LIFE. Casper started. "You know," he said, "life is nothing more than a sexually transmitted disease, and a terminal one at that."

"You're right," Xavier chimed in, "all life is, is a substance that temporarily prevents our bodies from rotting." On a more benign note, Spencer yawned and said, "Life is something you do when you can't sleep."

While pushing the frame of his eyeglasses firmly on his nose, Errol added, "Here's what I think. A person who works hard and accomplishes a great deal meets the same fate as one that doesn't, for they both die. So, what's the point of it all if it all ends in death?"

Those who, like Errol, can't help wondering what the point of it all is are focusing on the wrong thing, death. For if you focus on life, the answer immediately becomes clear. The point of it all is to live a life of exuberance, joy, excitement, and wonder. The point of life is to experience the excitement of discovery, joy of achievement, and wonder of mystery. The point is to take delight in the surprises that constantly come our way.

Simply put, the point of life is to enjoy it; that is, to live IN JOY. Since we cannot give away what we do not have, it is important that we meet our own needs first. Ultimately, however, the reason for enjoying life is to make the lives of others enjoyable. For as George Eliot (pseudonym of Mary Ann Evans Cross, 1819 ~ 1880) wrote, "What do we live for; if it is not to make life less difficult to each other?"

Adam Lindsay Gordon (1833 ~ 1870) expressed similar sentiments in verse:

"Life is mostly froth and bubble,

    Two things stand like stone,

    Kindness in another's trouble,

    Courage in your own."

The point of it all is to make a point, to have a reason for being, to be a point of light by making a difference. In other words, the purpose of life is to live a life of purpose. Usually, we don't have to waste time trying to discover our life purpose because it is not to be found, but to be created by us.

If your personal calling is not obvious to you, be still for a moment and ask your inner wisdom for guidance. Franz Kafka (1883 ~ 1924) explains: "Life's splendor forever lies in wait about each one of us in all its fullness, but veiled from view, deep down, invisible, far off. It is there, though, not hostile, not reluctant, not deaf. If you summon it by the right word, by its right name, it will come."

What's the point of being successful and having plenty to live on if one has nothing to live for? So, pick a cause. It is belief in something greater than you and enthusiasm in pursuing it that makes life worth living.

Some complain about the minor irritants and misfortunes that come their way. But so-called 'problems' are blessings for they provide the contrast that allows us to enjoy life. For example, Canadians love to escape from their harsh winters by visiting Florida and Hawaii. They find the contrast in weather delightful. So it is with the rest of life. The reason we enjoy the good times so much is because of the bad times. So, learn how to accept the bad with the good. Or, as Roger C. Anderson put it, "Accept that some days you're the pigeon, and some days you're the statue."

Others complain that life isn't fair, but that hardly is the case. After all, rich or poor, male or female, young or old, we all receive the same allotment of 86,400 seconds a day. That's fair isn't it? If some choose to use that time wisely and others choose to squander it, that's not the fault of life, is it? Also, what can be fairer than reaping what we sow?

Besides, as Lewis L Dunnington explains, "What life means to us is determined, not so much by what life brings to us as by the attitude we bring to life; not so much by what happens to us as by our reaction to what happens." Thomas L. Holdcroft shares an equally valid view, "Life is a grindstone. Whether it grinds us down or polishes us up depends on us."

Some believe in life after death, but what about life after birth? What's the point of life if you're not really living it? You probably agree with Philip Larkin (1922 ~ 1986) who wrote, "Life has a practice of living you, if you don't live it." So, get involved with life by doing and experiencing as much as possible. After all, not to engage with life is not to live at all. Isn't it better to die alive than to live dead?

Because of the brevity of life, the time to start living is now. Here are three quotes to forcefully bring home this message: 1. "For what is your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away (James 4:14). 2. "This life of separateness may be compared to a dream, a phantasm, a bubble, a shadow, a drop of dew, a flash of lightning." (Buddha, 568 ~ 488 BC) 3. "When one subtracts from life infancy (which is vegetation), sleep, eating and swilling, buttoning and unbuttoning - how much remains of downright existence? The summer of a dormouse." (Lord Byron, 1788 ~ 1824)

Yes, life is like a taxi. Whether you're an active participant or not, the meter keeps ticking. But don't despair, for today you still have 100% of the remainder of your life left. You still have time to act. You still have time to make the right choice. And while we're on the subject of choices, remember that "There is a choice you have to make, In everything you do. And you must always keep in mind, The choice you make, makes you." (author unknown)

So, don't take life for granted. Take it with gratitude. And leave it in better shape than you found it. Do you want to guarantee a successful life and peaceful death? Then follow the advice of Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (1715 ~ 1769) who wrote, "Live as you would have wished to live when you come to die."

  6. INSTINCT

  7. I've never been suicidal.  However, I personally do not think that suicide is a sin.  I think of more of a human population control.  If I were suicidal I wouldn't put two thoughts into it, and I'd be dead in the ground waiting for the zombie's rise.

  8. So you believe in God....

  9. don't believe all that biblical c**p, life is great I don't know how I got here and I don't care I just know that sometimes things do get bad, but eventually they get better and when I do think back on the times that were bad I notice that they weren't as bad as I thought they were when I was going through them. and also why would I wasnt to kill myself and miss out on all the fun of living

  10. Coz i want to go to heaven. And for that, i need God to give me more time to clean my sins and do good things. And believe me, i know forever wont be enough for me to even reach the neutral zone (if u know what i mean) coz i've done lots of sins. Thats what makes me dont want to die, at least not now.

  11. LOL

    pain is also a gift.

so my reason for living, my only reason for living.

    my parents.

i often fantisize what it would be like to jump off a building or get shot. and ussually in these fantasies people care or sometimes they dont.

everytime i even want to do it, i always push it out of my mind.

i know i dont have many people that care about me but there is 2 i know that do.

    my dad and my mom.

im the kinda person that hardly thinks before she acts, but in this case, i feel like if i did such a thing. it'd be unforgivable. if there is a heaven -which i do believe in- i dont think i could even look at them ever again even after death.

but as you said, if i do kill myself i may end up going to h**l.*shiver*

also something i dont want to experience.

    LOL

well i guess i want that big of a help :D

  12. Excellent question....Let me know will ya'...Now that means we both have to stick around for the answer, now don't it??

  13. Some quotes about this from Friedrich Nietzsche:

"If you have hitherto believed that life was one of the highest value and now see yourselves disappointed, do you at once have to reduce it to the lowest possible price?"

"It is true: we love life not because we are used to living, but because we are used to loving."

Their (the preachers of death) wisdom speaks thus: "Only a fool remains alive, but such fools are we! And that is surely the most foolish thing about life!"

"There are ages in which the rational man and the intuitive man stand side by side, the one in fear of intuition, the other with scorn for abstraction. The latter is just as irrational as the former is inartistic. They both desire to rule over life: the former, by knowing how to meet his principle needs by means of foresight, prudence, and regularity; the latter, by disregarding these needs and, as an "overjoyed hero," counting as real only that life which has been disguised as illusion and beauty."

  14. Looking for unconditional love, inmortality, knowledge, unity, that is, God

  15. My children, my family, my beliefs...

  16. Natural Inclination. Every animal is equipped with a self preservation mechanism. Fear and Pain are part of it. We naturally do everything we can to stay alive. It is only when we question and rationalize things like emotion, and hardships that we override this mechanism. Other animals, being incapable of reason, do not commit suicide.

  17. I've wanted to die more than I care to admit. The reason I'm alive today is my mother took the coward's way out.  I've been paying for it every day for almost 30 years.  Not just me, but my daughter who was born after my mother's suicide, and all the other grandchildren who she never had a chance to hold in her arms. Her suicide taught me the value of life. Because of her, I have a much greater love and appreciation for my friends and family. Yes, I'm a better person for her sacrifice, but I'd give it all up for the chance to spend just one more minute with her.

  18. i think most people choose to keep living to see what's next

human nature is for us to be greedy, we'll always want more

people who choose to commit suicide are afraid

think of it as being in a casino

most will keep betting until they no longer can

and some will quit before they lose anymore

my reason would be to live what''s next

  19. More to do

The road I've traveled is long, though only twenty

years have gone. I know I must push on, but I must

confess, it's not and easy thing to do. Sometimes I

wish I'd fall, just stop and end it all, but I know I

must go on. There's so much I have left to do.

My reason to keep on living is that I have so much more to do and experience in life. I have yet o give birth to a child, I have yet to fall in love and get married and I have never lived my life to the absolute fullest. I have people that still love me deeply and I have friends who care about me immensely. It's to them I turn when I need a shoulder to cry on, and they have always helped me see the beauty in life.

  20. Everyone has to find a reason for living beyond themselves.  Usually it is their children, spouse, or a deep-felt social cause.

  21. A philosopher once said that we would put an end to our life if we even had a glimpse of fate. There is no logical reason to live. You are impelled by your will.

I don't believe in religion and have no moral conflict with suicide.

However, it is quite difficult to kill yourself because you have an innate fear of death- we run from it by instinct. This is the cause for the fear of heights and darkness and such.

There is no h**l, and there is nothing to which anyone has more of a right than to their own life. I truly believe that.

However, I don't want to cause harm to the people that care so much about me by killing myself. Plus, it takes remarkable courage to defeat your own will to live- I simply don't have that courage yet.

If you look at all the misery that abounds in the world, born out of infinite necessities and very limited satisfaction, you can't help but think, what's all of this worth?

Notwithstanding, life can still be an experience--one that death cannot be. So, don't look at life as something profitable or durable (or that it is something born out of some divine plan or destiny). Instead, view life from the eyes of a sight seer. Enjoy the view, taste the fine wine, and involve yourself in a love affair.

After all, you can't enjoy anything when you're dead.

    Good luck

  22. *For what it's worth I don't think suicide is a sin I think it's just another choice for humans to make, a sad and final choice but a choice nonetheless.

**I think what makes me choose to be here is mixture of hope, fear and guilt. Guilt that I should be grateful for the life that I have that is much better than what most people get. Fear of a painful death and fear of what comes after., And hope that one day I will wake up and be happy and grateful with my life.

*** And I think that if you have faith in the belief of unforgivable sins and what not then you still have faith and hope left in you and I hope that these grow enough that you find something amazing to you here.

  23. Lack of a better idea.

  24. I stay alive because I feel that life is worth living.  All of it, the good, the bad, the heartbreak and the love.  All of lifes experiences  make us stronger and hopefully bring us closer to God.

You might think this is korny, but my religion really gives me direction in my life.  I believe that it is the true church of Jesus Christ.  Because of this, I have answers to the questions that are so hard for so many people to find answers to.  Such as:  Why am I here on earth?  Did I exist before, and will I exist after I die?  What is it that God expects of me?  How did the attonement of Jesus Christ actually work?  What is the nature of God, of Jesus Christ, and of the Holy Ghost?  Does prayer really work?  Can I get answers from God?

The knowledge of these things brings me great happiness and peace.  You can have them too if you want to.  But you must find the truth.  I am not going to push my religion on you.  It may not be for you.  I only know that because of it I have made mostly good decisions about marriage, and raising kids etc.  My church helps me solve the everyday struggles that I face, and the hard ones too such as death.

I hope this helps you in someway.  It helps also, to find things that you are thankful for such as a beautiful sunrise, good music, friends who care, and chocolate.  Of course you have  to count chocolate!
