  1. I have no idea, but I'd like to give an answer, might help you.

I am guessing not much, since the volleyball can't bounce off of long socks and you won't feel any pain of getting hit in the leg with a volleyball coming at you, since socks are not made of metal -.-

So it will protect them from scrapes and cuts I suppose. Sorry if this didn't help at all.

  2. when you wear the tall socks and kneepads, i would think it protects your lower legs when you dive. i didnt wear kneepads or tall socks all season and my legs got many many battle scars from diving.

  3. no the tall socks dont do anything at all, i have been playing for 5 years and i have asked the same question until last year when i had a coach who played for colleges     i asked her and she said that " they  dont do anything, they just make you look cooler"  but i think they look stupid hehe   just make sure you wear good kneepads:P otherwise it hurts when you dive!! it makes you go AHHHH!!!!!!

  4. protect your shins... a little bit. but they are mostly there so you can wipe the bottom of your shoes if they are wet. You can also use them if the back of your sneakers are irritating your ankles!

  5. keep calves warm, wipe shoes on and keep legs from get scrapes and scratches when they dive.

  6. it protects your calves and lower legs section

  7. I'll wrap up all the answers in a neat little post for you. :)

    1. Knee socks don't protect anything, they are socks. Girl's teams use them to bond by getting matching socks, etc.

The most protection they offer is maybe from floor burn on the sides of your calves, in which case you aren't sprawling right anyway.

    2. Knee socks can be used to dry the soles of your shoes and get dust of the bottom of the shoes.

They do not serve any other purpose what so ever. If you are required to get a certain color for school or something, it's most likely part of the uniform.

However, they are as much a part of the uniform as shoes and some teams require that players get matching shoes too. It's all up to your coach/boosters.

    I hope that helps you.

  8. thats kind of odd

the girls on my team just wear knee pads

i guess the socks are to protect your legs

if i were you i wouldnt question it and i'd just get some tall socks:P

  9. Knee socks are the new thing in volleyball!!! yea everyone wears them. their stylish and come in all styles ha ha and they keep your calves warm so they dont cramp up while playing.  also they are very protective if you wear active ankles so they wouln't rub against your ankles and give you blisters, and go under your knee pads to protect your knees a little better!!!!  another little tid bit you can wipe/ clean the bottom of your shoes off on yoiur knee socks while playing so you dont slide on the floor as much or prevent from sliding. hope this helped :))))))

  10. its cool

  11. The tall socks are for your shoes to clean the bottom of them. Because if your shoes are slippery you dont have a great grip on the floor and its easier to lose your balance. So u slimply clean the soles of the shoes on the socks.

  12. Actually, yes.

All the people who have answered and said that they offer no protection have obviously never had incredibly painful floor burns on their lower legs before.

Speaking as someone who has (and has the scars to prove it), knee socks can be a huge help if your playing volleyball and you have to make a sudden dive for the ball.

It is true that if you're diving correctly then you shouldn't need them, but for a lot of school teams, they might not have learnt how to dive properly yet.

What others have said about using them to clean the bottom of your shoes (so they're not slippery) and them looking cool are just added bonuses.
