Whats with girls these days now? Must they be obsessed about their weight and looks constantly?

Im 4'11 and 93 pounds (I know Im petite). Just last week at work, I was complaining to my female coworkers that a lady at a clothes shop was very rude to me when I was looking through the clothes. The shop lady rudely told me that "I don't think there's anything in this shop your size". I was just honestly complaining about the rude treatment.

Not bragging about how tiny I am. I wanted to make a comparison with how Vivian in "Pretty Woman" got asimilarr treatment when the shop ladies snubbed her at that shop. Ok I know Im not a hooker, but I still wanted to compare, as I thought it would be funny/quirky.

So you know what my female coworkers assumed? They go "Walden, are you just bragging about how tiny you are?" in a b*tchy. I tried to explain the Pretty Woman comparison thing but to no avail.

Why are girls so d**n concerned about their weight today?

Its so annoying how diets are what some girls only think about. Its constantly on their minds. They crave food all day. They cant think about the world beyond their plates. It is so SAD.

Can anyone relate? Whats with girls?

  1. It's all to do with the media these days, Girls think that every single girl must look tiny other wise they are ugly and fat. Which is not the case. I'm not tiny, I'm tall and quite big but I don't go on and on about my weigh and when I do it's because I've watched to much project catwalk.

  2. Well , with me being a girl and not exactly happy with the way I look I'm not sure if I'm gonna give you the answer you obviously want to hear.

See, it's in people's nature to be hard on themselves - from their looks to the job they did on their latest school/work project. It's the way we are, especially girls.

Maybe those girls you're talking about just want to look the best they can. What's so bad about that?

Plus, it's a personal choice whether to start a diet or not. It's not like a trend or anything.

Personally, I would just leave others to do what they want.. and search for ways to grow because I wanna be a couple of inches taller ;)

  3. Girl problems, I could never understand

  4. I hate it, Im also 4'11, but I dont know how many pounds i am, im about 7 stone. And I hate it. I wish I could put on weight, but no matter how much I eat, I cant put on any. People assume I must have an eating disorder. WTH! They dont even know me, I eat more than my parents combined! I eat so much, I just have a fast metabolisim.

I hate it when my friends say "Oh Im fat" "I need to lose weight" I wish I had bodies like them!!! ¬¬

  5. Wow- that's very rude treatment at the shop.

I think every generation has it's 'obsessive' hallmark. It is also now more socially acceptable to fuss about diet, weight and so forth. Taking such keen interest in oneself has become behavior approved by a trend-based society.

  6. Ok, I'm female and my two cents worth is this: A lot of women are competitive and jealous. They see other women as threats. Since you possess a body shape that a lot of women seem to want, they try to find a way to make you feel badly about yourself. These women need to grow up and find a hobby that does not revolve around appearances. Try not to let them get to you. I get the same thing at work and school...I happen to be the only visible minority at both places plus I'm attractive, so when these women make their catty comments, I just remember that if they're taking time out of their day to do that, I really am something special! :)

  7. Girls are competing for boys. Girls outnumber boys. Lucky boys, they get more choices, so if girls want to hook up with guys, they have to beat the competition.

  8. The issue is as old as the hills!  The difference is that the media in its hunger for your money, exacerbates the problem terribly.

  9. Media, boys, low self-esteem, the list is endless really.

Sadly, we are bought up in a world where "everyone" (in the media) is glamorous, slim, pretty, etc.

Girls WANT to be exactly like the people in those magasines they read, they want to look like celebrities, have a perfect body with no acne, blemishes, stretch marks, etc.

It's a shame, when I was younger everyone (girls and boys) went around with messy hair and no make-up. Now-a-days you don't see many girls that aren't wearing make-up.

I think most of it is because of media pressure, like I said, a lot of girls want to look like celebrities - have their looks/bodies, little do they know the pictures aren't real - they are photo-shopped, every 'flaw' in their body is covered up by a man sitting behind a computer using expensive software.

    Compare these:

    Look at Victoria Beckham's skin:

It's greasy and she suffers acne, most girls, particularly teenagers do too.

    Now look at this picture:

Here, there is nothing wrong with her skin, unfortunately, girls don't realise how much editing goes on and they want the perfect skin, clothes and body, just like the media portrays the celebs to have.
