When parked on level ground the car shfits into reverse no problem. When the car is parked on the driveway, which has a slight slope, you have to tug hard to get it into reserse or drive. Its a 2001 Infiniti I 30 I bought 2 weeks ago

  1. When parking on incline/decline you should put your parking brake firmly on before putting the transmission in park.  And put your foot firmly on the regular brake before releasing the parking brake or shifting out of park.  Otherwise there is drag on the park pall (pin) in the transmission.  Also never shift into park when the car is moving.

However, in wet sub-freezing weather, it is best to park where you do not need the "parking brake", because as your car ages or cable rusts, it can stick on if it freezes up or is corroded by road salt.

  2. Glock is right...most if not all auto trannys do that...do what the other guys says...put your handbrake on before you put it in park

  3. Effant is correct.  Depending on the car some do lock their cables in the rust belt.

  4. You should use your handbrake (emergency brake), and let the weight of the car be on the brake before putting it into park (put the car in nuetral and take your foot off the brake and you'll feel the weight of the car shift to the brakes). It will solve this problem, and it's easier on the tranny in general.

  5. all cars with auto trans do that
