My brother woke up about two weeks ago with troubles with his left eye, it seems to have like a blur, he describd it as if ur looking into an old mirror or when ur sweating, sweat gets into ur eye and makes it go blurry. He is 29 and has always had good eye sight until now. He has been to the eye doctor and he said he may have a leak behind his eye? We are still waiting to go to that next appointment to find out, but Im just curious to see if anyone else has or had this or even knows anybody who has had something similar. Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  1. You describe a fairly sudden onset with no pain, redness or other symptoms:

this would be consistent with a central serous retinopathy, though there are other possibilities.

The central vision becomes watery or distorted because the retina at or near the macula has a slight wrinkle or raised blister due to fluid underneath it (clear fluid, not blood).

It shows up well against an Amsler chart: see below.

*IF* it is central serous retinopathy, it often has no definite underlying cause (though it has an association with excess fatigue and stress), and frequently largely or completely recovers in about six weeks without treatment.

It will be checked to confirm to diagnosis, and to see if it is one of the rarer cases where laser or other treatment of the retina would be of benefit.
