Question:

Whats wrong with my ankles?

I have a good pair of rollerblades and for a while i thought the wheels were crooked but it seems that my ankle bend inwards making it really hard to roller blade i spazz out and lose control or my legs go to far apart. What can i do?

  2. By bending inwards, I am assuming that you mean that the ankle is inwards and the bottom of the skates are outward, it is called pronation.  It is somewhat common.

    If you stand up straight, can you balance on the skates without pronating?  If so, it is a good sign.  The better skates will allow you to adjust the frame under the heel so that your weight is evenly balanced on both sides of the wheels.

    If your skates are large (they should be snug all around your feet with no movement in the skates), it is possible that they are flopping around making it almost impossible to keep them straight while skating.

    If the area from the ankle to the cuff is loose and cannot help you hold the foot straight, you might want to try to find some thin padding to help it.

    Practice trying to hold your ankles straight, even if you have to shorten your stride to do it.  You can build up strength to help out.
